Description
"While many individuals have discovered discrete connections among origami, mathematics, science, technology, and education during the twentieth century, the field really took off when previously isolated individuals began to make stronger connections with each other, exploring the links between origami and "the outside world." This volume brings together an unprecedented number of researchers who discuss topics ranging from mathematics to technology to educational uses of origami to fine show more art to computer programs for the design of origami"--"Select proceedings from the Fifth International Meeting of Origami Science, Mathematics, and Education (5OSME), to be held July 13-17, 2010, in Singapore. The conference focuses on the mathematics of origami; applications of origami to science, engineering, and technology; use of origami in education; and the art and design of origami"-- show lessTags

The proceedings of the 5th "OSME" -- Origami in Science, Maths and Education -- conference, held in Singapore in 2010. This is the thickest OSME proceedings so far, totalling about 650 pages. The usual broad cross-section of topics by experts in their fields, all related by origami.
The first two sections on Design and Education are fairly accessible in the main, the later two sections on Engineering and Maths will require some specialist knowledge. However, if you are keen, there are some important mathematical results presented here on various construct ability problems, and some more accessible fun ones on folding knots and length division.
An important book in its field, but not for the faint-hearted.
