I really enjoyed this book. It's kind of funny, because the only reason I kept reading this series after Dragon Heir was because I had already bought the rest of the books, not realizing the last two followed a different storyline. Dragon Heir was so disorganized and poorly executed, I had pretty much lost hope in Chima's writing, but I forged on, as I'm not one to get rid of books I've never even read. I'm glad I did. The Thorn Hill storyline pulled me in a lot more than the previous one, and the books, in general, were written much more skillfully. This time, when she wrapped up her story, nothing felt rushed and thrown in last-minute, like before. There were still about two pages of exposition toward the end, but more scenes followed show more them, allowing for a nice, personal ending. show less
A good conclusion to the series. We learn the true story behind the Thorn Hill massacre, and both Jonah's and Emma's relationship to it. I loved the use of music in key moments of the story. There are surprising revelations about family, and some great battles with "hosted shades" (i.e. zombies!). We get nice scenes with all of the main characters from the previous books, which made me happy. I'm just sorry to see the series end.
I thought this book was super solid conclusion to this five book series. I really liked how this book wrapped up both the mini storylines in the last two books and all the stores in the previous four novels. I really enjoyed the various POV charters we got in this novel. I also the characters Joanah and emma were very unique. I also also the various mysteries that wrapped up in this novel. I thought one mystery was a tad predictable. But overall I thought this book was a solid ending to the series.
I definitely think this book is worth the read and I liked the way certain characters ended up. However, there were just too many loose ends for me to say that this was a good way to end the series.

Decent ending. Some of it was predictable. I loved Leesha's character development from beginning to end. I would definitely read another book by Cinda Willams Chima.
Rate 3.5 its was really good but it felt like there was a bit of a plot hole with the shades at the end.
