A largely novel anthology of essays examines secular as well as religious art and architecture throughout the highlands (not just in Quito); Miguel de Santiago and the emergence of the Escuela Quiten a; iconography as pedagogy; {cofradi as;} nuns as artists, patrons, and collectors; the role of Andeans in public celebrations and religious feasts; silverwork; the unrealized project for a radically new Riobamba following the earthquake of 1797; and {quiten o} artists and their oeuvre as exports.
