I hemmed and hawed about giving this book four star; and then realized I was pathetically happy to be reading something other than McCammon's Swan Song. This is a good book...not exceptional, but definitely worth the time. The story suffers from coincidence fairies. In my head, there are a lot of "if/then/else" statements while reading this. It's a fast read; and enjoyable for what it is.
This was SO good. The ending was a bit ... I don't know. Unsatisfying? But interesting story that had me on the edge of my seat from start to finish. Lots of interesting twists.
The book had a good premise and it kept me turning the (admittedly electronic) pages trying to figure out who was responsible for Annie/Kate's amnesia. Ryan acted like a jerky alpha hero for too much of the book, although I was glad to see that Kate didn't take any BS from him.
Some minor spoilers follow in my discussion of the book's weaknesses.
But there were two things that detracted from my enjoyment. First, there was almost no acknowledgement that any of this would have been difficult for Kate's son, Reed. Oh, he's only 4 years old, so he immediately accepts Ryan as his Dad and doesn't mind that he is passed off to grandparents he has never met every time Kate and Ryan want to be alone together? I don't think so!
Also, what about show more Kate's parents? We never see the reunion between parents and daughter or have any insight into how either party feels. Does Kate like her parents? Does she blame them for not finding her sooner? How do the parents feel to see their child return from the dead?
A lot of pages and plot are devoted to Julia, Ryan's daughter, but it's as if the author decided that she didn't want to give the kid plot too much attention so she just shuffled Reed off into a corner. Ditto with the impact of Kate's reappearance on her parents.
Regardless of these weaknesses, it was a fun guilty pleasure read and a good Amazon freebie. show less

Kate Alexander thought she had an accident that caused amnesia 18 months earlier and was recovering with her husband and 4 year old son in Dallas. But when her husband is killed in a plane crash she finds her life has been a lie. She goes from Texas to San Francisco to fill in the blanks and locate the people in the files her husband left. She finds she is a whole different person with another husband and a 9 year old daughter. Her search for the truth and her attempts to reconnect with this family are filled with mistrust and the start of a series of mysterious deaths. This was an angst packed thriller. Well done.
3.5 stars for this book.
This book grabbed me and refused to let me go. I was reading throughout the night. The story line seems confusing in the beginning, but soon you follow the leads with the main characters and it starts to make a weird kind of sense.
This is kind of horrifying. That people could potentially be so evil and vindictive that they ruin the lives of even innocent bystanders. I did not see the ending coming.. But somehow you wonder if she would not have sensed something off, even with no memory

Wait for Me
4 Stars
Awakening from a coma and suffering from amnesia, Kate Alexander’s life turns upside down once again when her husband dies and she learns that everything he has told her about their past is a lie. Now Kate must set out on a journey to discover her true identity as another man’s wife and mother to his daughter not to mention the truth about what really happened to her.
Although classified as romantic suspense, Wait for Me is more of a contemporary romance with a smidgeon of suspense as the investigation into Annie/Kate’s disappearance takes a back seat to the to emotional angst of Kate’s reunion with her family and especially with her husband, Ryan.
Kate and Ryan’s relationship is the focus of the story. She is show more a resilient heroine and the straightforward manner in which she goes about uncovering the truth and fitting in with her old/new family adds an element of realism to a plot that would otherwise require a large dose of suspension of disbelief.
Ryan suffered tremendously from the loss of his wife and as such finds it difficult to reconcile the person she once was with the woman she has become. He is understandably angry and belligerent, but slowly comes to realize that he will have to change if he wants to keep the woman he has always loved. The fact that he and Kate do not immediately fall into each others’ arms and declare undying love for one contributes to the intensity of their romance as they begin to fall in love all over again.
As said, the mystery is secondary and the solution, which is rather far-fetched, comes somewhat out of the blue. Nevertheless, I did manage to guess the culprit, mainly because all other suspects are quickly removed, and the climax is exciting and satisfying.
The secondary romance between Annie/Kate’s brother, Mitch and her lawyer, Simone is sweet but I’m not sure it is interesting enough to read the sequel. I guess only time will tell.
All in all, a solid read with a compelling premise and engaging characters. Fans of Elisabeth Naughton will not be disappointed. show less

Kate Alexander suffered a tragic accident that took away her memory. Then her husband is killed in an airplane crash. As she searches for answers on her past and tries to fit the pieces together on her husband, she begins to realize that she didn't really know him and it was time to find some answers. Looking for those answers for herself and her son, she goes to San Francisco and meets with an attorney who seems to recognize her.
Ryan Harrison lost his wife in a plane crash five years ago. He has spent the past few year raising his daughter and building his business. Ryan isn't interested in talking to a woman that is searching for answers and feels drawn to Ryan.
I could not put this book down. At times it was sad, at times sweet with show more romance then danger. I liked Kate's brother, who will have his own story in book 2 but thought the interaction with her parents was short and not at all what you would expect when they hadn't seen her in years. That could have been expanded. But overall, this is a great story and I will read more of this author. show less
