Sadly it has taken me so long to get to this book although I have been dying to read it. The verdict is that it was as good, if not better, than what I was hoping that it would be.

Basically the story is an interesting one where the are more than one story told to the reader. Ms. Barbara does a wonderful job in being able to the keep the stories apart and yet together enough for it to work. There seems to be a flawless flow that makes the reading very much easy.

And the characters are wonderful - they are full of personality, life and human flaws that make them very relatable. Since of such greatly developed characters there is a true emotional depth to the book that is refreshing while I can promise I was groaning, laughing and cheering but not all in the same order. Paige is truly a refreshing protagonist since even though she almost never gets it right she at least keeps on trying.

Definitely enjoyed this book and will be truly keeping it for my collection. Wonder what the other books in the series will be about while I loved the recipes that are included. Must try them soon....

In Glimmers the reader follows the female lead, Paige, as she discovers a new “superpower” that allows her to see glimmers of peoples memories through items they had a strong connection to. The book isn’t heavy on the paranormal aspect- the characters just accept what happens to Paige without too much fuss and carry on (with little explanation later on). I didn’t mind it not being heavy on the paranormal, but a bit more curiosity on Paige and her husband’s part wouldn’t have hurt.

The lives Paige jumped into became incredible short love stories! Each one depicted a young women facing a turning point during a relationship that was restricted by society or prior relationships. Social hierarchies, engagements, and families stand between the couples and their heart-driven romances.

Paige also has to cope with planning her sister’s wedding while having the glimmers, but with Paige I think there could have been more conflict centering around her. There’re a few dramas mostly centered around her sister, but the main character doesn’t really see much conflict through the book.

Overall, Glimmers is a good, clean romance book I’d recommend to anyone looking for quick and sweet romance reads.

My " in a nutshell" summary...

Paige touches an object and sort of becomes that object's owner...learning and sharing and reacting as that person...for awhile.

My thoughts after reading this book...

Hmmm...Paige has the "glimmers". If she slips on boots, a ring, an article of clothing...she sort of becomes the person that the object originally belonged to. She experiences their lives. In this book she buys a pair of vintage boots and becomes Delilah...17 year old madly in love with William...Delilah. After this experience she is Paige again...doing a favor for her sister. She tries on her sister's engagement ring...and discovers her sister's secret. Yikes! Then...her mother brings her a family heirloom and she becomes Emma...her mother's great grandmother...I think. She discovers Emma's dilemma. All of these " glimmers" involve romantic issues.

Paige always comes back to herself and her glimmers don't seem to take very long but they are always insightful and the characters are connected. And for some reason after living Delilah's life she becomes an amazingly good cook!

What I loved about this book...

I truly enjoyed the glimmer episodes...especially Delilah's...her story was teen aged angst...lots of cooking...and I was left not knowing her outcome until much later in the book! I also loved the recipes at the end of the book. I actually enjoyed the writer's writing style. She was fun and I loved that!

What I did not love...

Romance...true romance...is not a genre I usually choose. I think because of the fantasy aspect I truly did enjoy my time with this book. I am not sure book two is in my future but I liked this one.

Final thoughts...

I found this book to be a fun romantic ( but not overly weirdly romantic ) reading experience. I enjoyed Paige's episodes...in fact...I enjoyed Paige. She was a wife, a mom, a daughter, a sister and a back in time traveler! So...if you love or need a fun romantic romp...this might be a great book to choose! ( )

Book description
A simple touch, and suddenly Paige is in the past - living someone else's life, seeing the world through her eyes, and feeling her deepest emotions.

Paige used to think memories only existed in the mind. But now, she knows better. She can't explain how or why, but she experiences "glimmers," special moments that have remained behind - clinging to a letter, a ring, even a worn-out pair of boots.

When Paige returns from each glimmer, a small part of her has changed. Who is this gourmet cook, fashion designer, feisty lover? And how is she supposed to explain this to her family without them thinking she has completely lost her mind?

Paige thinks her new talent is a gift until . . . she is suddenly transported into her sister’s memory and catches a glimmer of her sister's secret life.

Take this humorous and romantic journey, as Paige learns about true love through the lives of three extraordinary women.

Glimmers resembles many literary novels: Southern warmth from The Notebook; light-hearted drama and family dynamics of Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood; timeless romance of Pride and Prejudice.
