Biscuit Plays Ball is a beginning reader's book which follows a small dog's, Biscuit's, short encounter with his friend/ owner. This small dog is extremely curious and inquisitive, always getting into things and interrupting whatever activity or event that is going on. In this story, Biscuit becomes enthralled with a ball that his [human] friend is trying to use for a game. However, once he gets ahold of it, his preoccupation and even obsession with acquiring and playing with it leads to a series of short events which effect others' happenings and behaviors.
I have a personal connection to the Biscuit series of books. Ever since my small nephew, Rudy, was born a few years ago, I became acquainted with this small, furry character through show more reading these books. I think that as a beginner's level or conceptually introductory books, they are great and amusing for young readers. The text is basic and straightforward, which makes for easy reading and understanding of the plot. The pictures in the book further call attention and hold it because of their coverage on the entire page and playful actions with the characters. I think that visually these books and this one in particular are great developmentally because they introduce certain simple motifs and iconography for associating certain words to visually stimulating images. show less
