The age range for Super Fly Guy by Tedd Arnold would likely be early elementary and middle to begin to start reading longer and harder books. The story is about a boy named Buzz who becomes friends with a fly and decides to keep him as a pet. Buzz names the fly Fly Guy, and the two quickly become close companions. Throughout the story, Buzz tries to show others that Fly Guy is more than just a normal fly and can actually be a good pet. This book does a really good job highlighting friendship, humor, and imagination. It shows that friendships can come in unexpected forms and encourages readers to think creatively. The book would be great to use in a classroom for beginning readers because the text is simple and easy to follow. The show more illustrations are colorful and expressive, helping young readers understand what is happening in the story. The combination of humor, simple language, and engaging pictures makes the story fun and exciting for young readers. show less
This book surrounds a fly and his friend, a human named Buzz, and their journey in getting the good lunch lady back into the school. After the fly (Fly Guy) was caught in the lunch room with Roz (the good lunch lady), she was fired. However, after multiple instances of backfire against the new, but terrible lunch lady, Roz was eventually rehired and even made Fly Guy his own lunch for the day!
I believe this book would go great in a 1st-3rd grade classroom, as it's not quite a level 1 read, but more so a level 2-3 read. There is also some slightly complicated words within this book as well, although nonetheless, still very engaging!
This is such a fun story for a young reader. I love that Tedd Arnold has created a Fly Guy series! Once a child gets hooked on this character, she/he will want to check every book out. Fly Guy is funny and the text supports young readers. The story has a "chapter book" feel, so that young readers feel accomplished.
This is a great book to use with ELL students during a guided reading lesson! This book teaches students to plan and find multiple solutions to a problem. A story element that is frequently seen in this book is conflict, which is great to learn especially when beginning to read and comprehend. This is a fast-read for students, so teachers can find a topic to focus on and have students develop their thoughts quicker. There is also humor in this book which encourages readers to continue reading and stay concentrated, but also have fun while reading. This book also encourages students to be imaginative and creative in their own writing (having fly guy be the main character). I think this would be a great addition to a classroom library!
Primary-Int. Fly Guy goes to school with Buzz and makes friends with the lunch lady, chaos ensues. Good for early readers.
Super Fly Guy is a silly story that would be great for primary aged readers in first or second grade. This story is about a fly who comes to school with his owner Buzz and has many adventures making a mess in the school kitchen and making new friends. This early chapter book would be very engaging for any younger reader as the plot is about making a mess and being silly but it would be really good for early readers who may be reluctant to read chapter books or are having a little bit of difficulty with them. This book is pretty short as it is only 30 pages but it has definite sections and dialogue that may be a challenge for some early readers which is why this would be a great resource for student engagement within literature.
A great beginning reader as the humor engages the reader to keep moving along. The illustrations are delightfully gross, perfect for the young reader as another level of engagement.
