Christmas Roses

All Celia wants for Christmas is…a few more boarders at her boarding house. There aren’t many people in need of lodging in this small mining town, and Celia’s making do and raising her child on her own. Though she isn’t really set on getting married again, she could reconsider if she were ever to meet the kind of man who’d bring her roses for the holiday in Christmas Roses, a tale by author Amanda Cabot.

A simple, warm, and enjoyable historical romance. Though a pivotal twist in the story seemed rushed and therefore not too compellingly delivered, it was nice to be surprised. I wasn’t totally convinced of the description of the heroine’s “deep” love for a man she’d only known for two months, and “love” (the term show more itself) was used too many times in the climax–until it started to feel corny.

Really, though, the story is warm and enjoyable and plenty Christmassy–the kind of cozy little book best read in print, if possible. show less

This was such a cute story and perfect to read next to some twinkle lights during this Christmas season. Reading it reminded me of drinking a cup of hot chocolate with a warm blanket on by the fire. It was simple, sweet, and more meaningful than I had expected.

This is one sweet, short book. Once I started I didn't put it down until I finished.
Amanda Cabot has written a good reminder of what Christmas is. Loved how the Reverend references Joseph. Makes you think, and sure made Mark think.
This is the story of forgiveness and finding peace. It is also a really sweet love story. Loved the interactions with the sweet Baby Emma.
As we travel this journey you have to wonder where anyone would find Roses for Christmas. Celia Anderson's is a young widow, she loved her husband, but hers was an arranged marriage. She makes a statement that she would only marry for "love" and she must have Roses for Christmas?

This was a sweet story but it does fall firmly in the romance genre. Celia is a widow who is being pressured to remarry to give her daughter Emma a father. There are two men who are interested but Celia would like to marry for love. Then a stranger comes into town... I think you can safely predict what will happen. I did enjoy the journey though and thought the love story happened really organically. This was a clean read and it is a novella so it's not very long.
I would recommend it.

This was a story that didn't take me long to read, but I enjoyed every minute of my time in the copper mining town of Easton, in the Wyoming Territory, in 1882. Celia Anderson lost her husband in a mining accident shortly before their first child was born. Now Celia is trying to run a boardinghouse, and raise her 6 month old child, Emma.

Mark Williams has spent 2 years searching for his father, who he thought was dead, until his Mom died and he found letters that proved differently. Now he is out to find out why his father left. He ends up in Easton and when he goes to check in at the boardinghouse, his assistance is desparately wanted by Celia, who can't get her daughter to breath good. From here on out it will be enjoyable to watch show more these two get to know one another and learn to love each other. There are other men that are interested in Celia, but only one will bring her Christmas roses.

I found this story light and sweet. It was a wonderful little love story, but not just that. There were side stories of finding family, the love of a child, loss and general life challenges. I enjoyed reading it and it left me feeling good, just what a story like this should do. Great characters as well, very likable.
