Review:

Where do I even start with this? Am I able to just say that I will be reading book 2 in the series tomorrow?

Enter Red Team!

The author does a fantastic job of introducing a large number of characters in one book. She also allows us a glimpse of what we may see, what relationships may develop - she leaves you wanting more and feeling actual disappointment when you realize you are on the last page.

Mandy has an overprotected big brother who has a sketchy town history. He and his team of badass special ops friends come back to town when things go shady at the rehab she wants to build on her family farm. Rocco was the first available to be sent to look after Kit's sister. Though Kit wanted him watching over her - perhaps not getting into a relationship with her.

It's so refreshing to see how Mandy is patient with Rocco's issues and the ending, though a cliffhanger, is a happy one for Rocco and Mandy.

Believe me when I say you will not want to put this book down.

Steam Level:

3 out of 5

One thing I loved:

The character set up and storytelling was amazing. You are drawn into Cheyenne's Wyoming and all the people the author wants you to know. It's been a bit since I read a book that introduced so many characters to begin backstories with it being done so well.

One thing I disliked:

Absolutely no dislikes here.

4-1/2 stars. Very well done story of a man with extreme PTSD. He had some MAJOR problems and he didn't get over them in a hurry. He was very well written. The heroine was not as well developed and that is really where the story lost the half star. We knew almost nothing about her other that she was a nice woman. They fell in love sort of fast but I'll buy it since she helped him get his head back on straight. I would like to see them somewhere down the road to make sure that they will stay together. There were some really realistic touches like the fact that after seven years under cover in Afganistan, the hero had problems with how much skin the heroine showed. Small touches like that really upped the intense feel of the book.

In the second half of the book we are introduced to a bunch of men who are ex military who work with a private merc type group now. A familiar set up but one I enjoy. So there should be lots of stories to come. The author started the set up of several of the characters stories here and I'll be interested to see if she can keep several story lines running throughout the next books.

Can't wait for the next one. ( )

So Elaine Levine is a new-to-me author, but I decided to try this one out after my friend Deanna raved about the audiobook and narrator (who she may be cyber stalking at this very moment). So I thought I would give it a try today while I had the super fun task of cleaning my house from top to bottom (shudder). So I picked up the book for free on Amazon, then was able to add the narration for only $1.99 (yay!)

The Red Team series is following a group of special ops soldiers home from Afghanistan and who seemed to have brought some of the war home with them. This story focuses on Rocco, who was deep undercover with the Taliban for many years. Now that he is home, he is suffering severe bouts of PTSD. Rocco's story was heartwrenching and caused some ugly crying while I was trying to mop my floors and do laundry and dust. I was happy to see Rocco begin to heal through his relationship with Mandy, and very happy some other things came about which I cannot mention b/c I don't want to give spoilers.

I did feel that sometimes the action/drama/suspense scenes culminated a little fast so it seemed rushed. Oh, there's a bomb on you? No problem, I just diffused it in 2 seconds. Now let's go find a car and have sex. But it only happened once or twice, so it didn't detract much from the story.

Both the story and the narrator kept me entertained while I spent an entire day doing boring chores. It made the day go faster, which is always what I'm looking for in an audiobook. I think I will thoroughly enjoy this series about a group of badass military operatives... all of the men have distinct personalities and I am looking forward to reading about each one. 4 stars / 3 flames. Fun romantic action with more going on than just romance. Hero with PTSD, home grown terrorists, and a bikie gang in a drug turf war. I did feel that the ending was a bit weak but shall not put in spoilers ( )
