Nothing is going to go wrong. Ashley Miles has worked too hard for her independence to let some Bentley-driving hunk named Quinton Murphy interfere with her plans—or her freedom. Yes, the chemistry is phenomenal. Kind of scary, actually. But that's it. NO emotional commitments.
. . . will
But he's SO wonderful—a woman could show more fall in love . . . How did that happen? That wasn't part of the plan! But can she trust him? Really trust him? The man is just so mysterious. There's only one solution: put it all on the line and see what Quinton does when she tells him how she feels. And hope everything that can go wrong . . . won't . . .

Ashley is a girl from the other side of the tracks working overtime to improve herself & her lot I life. Her parents were constantly on state aid from the lack of desire to work. Ashley has had enough of being made fun of. Her friend May is the only one who ever stood up for or behind her. She's working two jobs & going to school to be a nurse. She doesn't have time for any man, especially a rich one like Quentin Murphy & definitely not a psychopath like Elton.

Quentin has everything - money, house, great job. Everything except a woman to share it with. Ashley is so plain spoken he knows she isn't interested in his money but why is she holding him off? The chemistry is there. Hell, she kisses him senseless but then she backs off. What's show more going on?

I really enjoyed this book. Quentin & Ashley are opposites in every way. Ms. Foster does a really good job with her descriptions & prose to show the explosive chemistry. I LOVE Ashley's character - defensive, sarcastic, witty, loving & loyal. Denny is my favorite supporting character. He may not be Ashley's father by blood but it's apparent in his actions & feelings that he feels like her father. The interactions between Ashley & Quentin, Ashley & Denny & even Denny & Tim are intense! The reader can sense deeper meanings in them but nothing is revealed until the end. I did not read Jude's Law first & didn't feel like I was missing anything but now my curiosity has been engaged & I think I'll go read it next.

First book i have read by this author.
Ashley as a poor prickly but verbally uninhibited character was fun to read.
Quinton as an alpha male tycoon with trust issues but crazy in lust and super protective was also really interesting.
The chemistry, the relationship , the love all of it was fun.
Some of the dialogues were hilarious.
In a scene, after they make love, Ashley asks him,"Have you ever been in love?", he gets real panicky wondering if they have crossed signals somewhere. Then she's like "Relax, I'm not proposing".
There is a lot of really interesting banter like this.
To add an element to the story, there is a bad guy. Sad part is everyone knows who he is all the time. So no suspense element but some thriller element.
I am definitely show more going back for more of this author. Hope other books equally have these elements of humor and good chemistry. show less
Good except for one huge issue: Overall, not a bad book, but it wouldn't qualify as one of my favorites. It was just kind of an average romance. I liked catching up with Jude, May and Denny. And Ashley and Quinton were pretty cool characters. They had a workable romance. And I'm glad that Foster closed up the bad-guy storyline that started in Jude's Law. I thought the fact that Ashley ended up pregnant was rather predictable. In the end, it was a good read, but not great.

My biggest complaint with this book was the situation with Ashley and May being sisters and not knowing it (May's father had an affair with Ashley's mother). It turns out that Ashley actually knew she was May's sister and that just didn't work for me. I didn't care show more that she knew, but it didn't work right. I never once got the impression that Ashley knew during Jude's Law, then during Murphy's Law there are were subtle hints throughout the book that Ashley actually DID know. And I was like "huh?" If that was the way Foster wanted to work it, I think she could have worked it out through the two books better. Then the resolution of that issue drove me bonkers. It's this huge thing. Two best friends who are really sisters, with one of them knowing for a long time, and the other having know clue. From the time it first came up, I couldn't wait until the part where they came face to face with that knowledge. So to have the end come around and to have that story point resolved with a sentence "May had accepted Ashley as her sister with tearful glee" was a real suck-out. I wanted the actual moment, the emotion, the conflict, and all I got was a short past-tense paragraph that conveyed nothing. I hated it. Foster did a total injustice to that situation, and it annoyed me to death. show less
Beach fare. Smart, hardworking and unknowingly gorgeous young woman meets and falls for a rich hunk, but fights it every step of the way. Add rich friends plus a stalker. Formulaic, junk food for the eyes but enjoyable in just the same guilty way.
Murphy’s Law by Lori Foster
Law #2

Quinton Murphy has the hots for Ashley Miles. He is rich and she is not. She has a plan that will see her secure with dreams fulfilled if she continues to work more than one job while going to college. She does not have time for romance so does not have time for Quinton. Well…that begins to change BUT there is also a stalker with bad intentions that must be found and dealt with before a HEA can be found for the two of them.

This was a quick, easy, fun and somewhat predictable read. I did not read book one in the series, Jude’s Law, and have a feeling some of the comments would have made more sense and the supporting characters would have been familiar. That said, reading book one is not essential show more for this story to stand on its own.

Thank you to NetGalley and Kensingington Publishing Corporation’s Zebra Books for the ARC. This is my honest review.

It was alright. I mostly just read it because I had read the first one. I do enjoy the poor girl/rich guy thing, and liked the characters well enough.
Not too bad of a romance. I liked Ashley and her way of speaking without holding anything back. It made for some funny conversations.
