Just Plain Ugh. I should have known better -- the book is vanity/self published and shows a huge lack of editorial oversight and authorial indulgence. Enough time has passed since I suffered through this that I no longer remember in detail what I detested about it, and my notes and previous reviews are all consigned to digital oblivion. I'm very surprised to see it has a new cover. Perhaps a new edition has actual writing within.

What's sad is the book had the spine of an interesting idea in it and I suspect the author really did have the ability to bring it forth. However, it was overly layered with direct quotes from the original novel, with simplified characterizations, with tedious repetitions, and with an abundance of annoying tics. show more I almost stopped reading mid-stream, but because it was so short, I soldiered on. Then I promptly threw it into the "take to used bookstore" box, with a short pop on the wall just above said box. It was a tremendous waste of opportunity. show less

I don't know why I keep reading sequels to Pride & Prejudice when they're all so reliably terrible, but I can't stop myself. I love P&P, it's my favorite book, and I'm sucked in by any promise of a little more of it.

This is not the worst sequel to P&P that I've read, but it's just awful, regardless.
Well done sequel, even if it wasn't done by Jane Austin; it read like it could have been done by her.
