When I bought this copy, I did so because the illustrator was Peter Hurd, one of the Brandywine School of illustrators/artists. The book was written by a Chester County PA author and I collect those books.

I was extremely and pleasantly surprised that it talked about a sailing adventure related to the Revolutionary War. Copies of primary sources are included to confirm the dates and events. Thomas Mason was rather temperamental and was married to a Quaker so it made for some interesting events as he helped with the war effort but never fought. It kept me reading until too late each night.

I'm going to have to pull some of my other Pleasants books out fo the library.
