All the men-folk in the Gilver family have come down with a variety of illnesses and between that and a case that involves a Hydropathic Hotel, along with a yearning to install central heating in the house has her decamp the entire family and many of the staff on a rest cure and investigation. What they discover is a convoluted mess of intrigue and the rumours of ghosts which add some psychics to the mix.
Sometimes Dandy almost comes across as too clever for her own right and too self-sure though there is a lot of Edwardian no-nonsense jolly hockeysticks to her character. I'm enjoying this series but I would like to see Alec get some happiness.

Author Catriona McPherson, in her eighth installment of the Dandy Gilver mystery series, spins a fabulous cosy tale set in 1920s Scotland. It's a little Upstairs, Downstairs, with a touch of Agatha Christie added and a dash of P.G. Wodehouse for good measure. The writing is colorful and exquisite - laying out a visual landscape that is vast and rich in color. The emotions are well described and easily felt. The reader is fully transported to a different place and time as they march in step with the ever active mind of female sleuth, Dandy Gilver. I will certainly make a point of reading the earlier books in this series.
The Hydro is the star and gets the best attention in this book. Dandy and Alec's partnership still bothers me. I know that matrons did have bachelor male friends in the history of the world. And yet. The inclusion of Hugh is a good touch.
