Book 44 - Cora Harrison - Titanic Voyage from Drumshee
Originally published in 1998 when I was still starting on my journey as a teacher and I had just introduced the topic of the Titanic to my P7 class. This novel, the sixth in a series I discovered on reading it properly for the first time, tells the story of a young teenage girl, Kitty, who is asked to accompany a well todo lady and her niece and nephew to America as their sitter/ governess/ ‘big sister’.
The children’s parents had already died...as had Kitty’s. Dramatic in its storytelling and much scarier than I remembered. All the main characters on board the ship get a name check...from the white bearded Captain to Officer Lightoller and even Mr Andrews gets a sad show more farewell.
The scenes after the sinking are brilliant and put James Cameron’s efforts to shame. Really well written and although not perfect in its Titanic facts I would certainly recommend it...might even seek out the first five in the series sometime. show less
