A great short little re-telling of Princess and the Pea! Young readers will enjoy this one because of the engaging illustrations and they will understand the story as well. The story is about a king and queen looking for a princess for a son. They did not find a princess suitable for their son and turn them all way. That same evening a princess showed up, wet from the rain, saying she was a true princess. To test she was a really princess, the queen placed a pea on her bed and plied 20 mattress onto. The next morning the princess couldn't sleep at all because she felt a pea and the queen and king knew she was a real princes.
One stormy night, a mysterious woman knocks on the castle door claiming to be a true princess, but the queen has her doubts. So, she concocts a clever scheme to see if the princess is the real thing.

Harriet Ziefert is a children's author born in 1941 in New Jersey. She has written several hundred children's books, including the Little Hippo series.
