This is a no-frills, basic introduction to HTML coding. While it is unlikely that it will, by itself, direct you to produce an award winning web site, it should at least guide you through the foundational elements and get you well on your way. Or, if mere understanding of how web sites work appeals more to you, then this would be a decent place to start.
