Paintings of cats - by Barry Moser. Poems - by the MacLachans. What's not to love? Well, for starters, the fact that the lovely long-haired cat isn't necessarily a she, and isn't necessarily vain. I'd rather we'd get introduced to real cats rather than stereotypical icons of our projected perceptions.

Well, to be fair, sometimes we do: mama Bett has good names for her kittens as she wishes humans would be more observant to their true natures and not just their coloring.

You might like it more than I did, and wish there were more than 13 cats featured. But I do recommend you check it out from the library before buying it.
Thirteen poems about various cats from co-authors Patricia MacLachlan and Emily MacLachlan Charest are paired with watercolor paintings of said felines in this sweet picture-book. Each two-page spread features a different cat (and cat breed), from the loving Romeo to the motherly Bett.

The chief appeal of this slight picture-book, for this reader, was Moser's delightful paintings, which really capture the feline charm of his subjects, in their various delightful poses. The poems themselves were pleasant but unremarkable, and I doubt I'll recall anything about them in a few hours' time. Recommended primarily to Barry Moser fans (in whose number I count myself), although young cat lovers may enjoy it as well.
I can see reading these books out loud and having them be used as examples of poems and just how fun they can be. As a teacher I can also talk about perspective and what it might be like to imagine you are someone else and what they might write poetry about. This book was cute and charming, and the art was beautiful.
This lovely book is an ode to cats, those who have kittens, those who are strays who come in from the rain, those who are the boss and let their owner know they are in charge.

Then, there are cats that like to crawl under the covers at night, others who are beatiful with white fur. some ar born in the farmer's barn, and there are cats who love to wait and then surprise the people who care for them.

Anone who loves cats will like this book.
This is a sweet picture/ poetry book that covers each cats story. It is a nice introduction for a young reader as to what poetry can be but still a simple to understand read.
A reader will learn how cats really feel about their humans and their lives. We get to see a cat's perspective of their lives. The illustrations in this book are very well done, compliment the text and make the poems that much more fun to read!
This is a collection of poems spoken from the cat's voice and point of view. The very realistic descriptions make the poetry enjoyable and amusing. The real life style illustrations are beautiful art which look like water colors. This book would be useful for teaching poetry, cats, and/or read aloud time. It would be great for inspiring creative writing.
