Jaguar Fever

As a werewolf fanatic I don’t typically read a lot of books that feature their arch nemesis, cats, but Terry Spear weaves a compelling tale of love and danger while also drawing attention to important issues facing jaguars in Central America. This novel manages to be both sexy and educational at the same time which is an odd combination in itself but in this instance it works.

The shifter lore is straightforward but still detailed enough to really capture the essence of what it means to be cat in Spear’s Heart of the Jaguar series. I enjoyed learning the differences between “city” and “wild” felines, and I found both the name and concept of the Golden Claw JAG Elite Force very cute. The author also show more uses this book as an opportunity to educate readers on some of the problems jaguars face as an endangered species and being an animal lover myself, I appreciated her willingness to incorporate a slice of reality into her fiction.

This book has fantastic character dynamics; I loved the interactions between the couples, brothers and women. There’s so much variety that it’s easy to get caught up in their dialogue. I was surprised by how much I actually liked Maya; we first meet her in the middle of the dance floor at a club attracting men like sex is on sale and I automatically labeled her a “party girl” and she is that but in a light-hearted, I-just-want-to-have-fun kinda way that’s actually quite endearing. I found her free-spirited nature rather contagious and enjoyed living vicariously through her. The men didn’t draw my attention nearly as much but they still had their uses if you know what I mean. *wink*

I found that the plot was a little underwhelming; it talked a big game but failed to live up to its true potential. Spear tried to work in too many plot threads and many of them were left unfinished which left me feeling unfulfilled. On the other hand, I did enjoy the world building and I loved Spear’s in-depth descriptions of Belize and the jungle; it’s a setting that I don’t visit often in my day-to-day reading so it was a nice change of scenery.

Even though this book didn’t wow me it still managed to hit all of the key elements that I look for in a good Paranormal Romance. This was my first Terry Spear novel and I doubt that it will be my last; if she can manage to get me excited about jaguars I’m eager to see what her wolves have to offer in her Heart of the Wolf series. show less

I adore Ms. Spear, love her Heart of the Wolf series and will always re-read one of her works. This is a re-read and I enjoyed it again. We get a sweet romance and a little action.

Wade is an alpha, sexy, dominate and smart. He is protective and territorial of what he deems his. He has a great relationship with his brother David, providing the perfect amount of family ties, sarcasm and humor.

Maya I liked her in [b:Savage Hunger|14296667|Savage Hunger (Heart of the Jaguar, #1)|Terry Spear|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1342174178s/14296667.jpg|19120452]. She show more is/was determined to see her brother hooked up, so she could start looking for a mate of her own. She is strong and a dominate heroine, however she makes a few decisions you want to smack her for.

I love that we get such great family dynamics with Conoor and Kat returning as well as the new characters being added. I like the easy camaraderie and banter between them all and how they develop and grow as the story progresses. The relationship is a quick blooming one, since both where introduced in book one Savage Hunger, so their semi-relationship is carried over into this one. I like that we get to learn more about the Jaguar shifter world too.

These books are the perfect reads for me, especially when I don’t have a lot of time on my hands or need to de-veg from an awful or tough read. Ms. Spears knows how to create a fun world full of sexy interesting shifters with the right amount of suspense, action, and romance.

It was great to have Maya and Wade back, and I just love David; I can't wait for his book!

Jaguar Fever was a good book, a solid 3.5 Skull read, but I keep wondering if it might have been better for me to wait and read it after the editing and BETA reading process was finalized. There were several things that just didn't feel very 'Terry Spear' like to me - characters a bit on the shallow, underdeveloped side, some sub-plotlines that felt a bit like they were put in and yet to be expanded upon, etc, but knowing it was an un-edited copy, I tried to look past all of that and see the final product's potential.

What you get show more with Jaguar Fever is a sweet paranormal romance with a bit of action and lots of family dynamic. I absolutely love the big cats, and Terry writes them in that form beautifully. I'm not sure that anything will beat the heart and soul she has poured into her wolves over the years in my personal opinion, but I'm excited to keep reading about our Special Forces Jaguars and the feisty women they fall in love with... :)

Jaguar Fever is the second book of the series, but it would stand very well on its own. If you are a fan of shifter romance and adventure, I do recommend Jaguar Fever and its predecessor Savage Hunger. show less

Terry Spear knows how to hold her reader's attention with her descriptive and detailed style of writing.
This is an exciting read and should not be missed.
