The Poodle and the Pea Rejuvenates a Classic

Puppy love springs anew in this Charlotte Guillain rewrite of a classic Hans Christian Anderson tale. From the pomp and circumstance of the French Poodle Royal Court to the basket loaded with hundreds of blankets, this adorable book will have any little reader wagging her or his imaginary tail. Young readers will first be introduced to the characters in the upcoming book, which gives the work a “live play” feel and further adds to the theatrical magic of the tale.

Dawn Beacon’s illustrations, awash with diluted color, are filled with the emotions of the contained characters. The forlorn prince forced to seek a bride by his aristocratic and pompous parents are every bit as believable as show more the lost and mud-soaked princess to young readers. Guillain’s book, though fun and entertaining, still manages to convey the message that covers are seldom an inclination of what lies beneath. What lies beneath the cover of The Poodle and the Pea will delight young readers with this fanciful picture book from beginning to end. show less
