I liked the way the author, Mary Pope Osborne, moved from the productive, daily life of Pompeii to the destruction caused by Vesuvius and then to the found artifacts. Beautifully illustrated by Bonnie Christensen. An informative book for children and adults.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. My children were fascinated by the illustrations which depict artifacts found in the excavations of Pompeii. The story itself was interesting and full of information. The author provided vocabulary and historical information in an easily understood format. I highly recommend this book to introduce the idea of archaeology, discovering history, or ancient Mediterranean civilizations.
