So i just got reading Skin Deep by T.G. Ayer, its the first book I've read by this author. With this being the first book I've ever read from Ayer, and this being the first book in the series, I think it's time to start my review.
Kailin a alpha panther shifter and wraith Hunter, lives an almost solitary life; except for the few friends she has and her job and the counseling center. One night after a wraith fight, Kailin comes across a horrific sight. Someone being thrown out of a car at high speed, she goes to check on the person. Only to find out it's a skinned alive panther or walkers as they call themselves. From here Kailin is on a mission to find out who is killing walkers as well as other shifters. While going through this she show more meets Logan the youngest member of Omega, a sector in the police department for abnormal things. They end up working together on this, while also forming a connection personally.
The description is pretty vague, and there is a reason for this. So much goes on in this book, giving away too much details will hinder the quality of the book. But I did enjoy this book, though it took me a while to read this, due to video games. Dang that Call of Duty, hangs my head. But no seriously it's good.the only drawback I have is that Kailin only shifts fully once in this book. Otherwise no complaints here. show less

I just finished reading Skin Deep. It is the first book in the Dark World series. It is written by T.G. Ayer. A skin walker lives among humans protecting them from evil creatures of the night. She keeps her identity a secret as best as she can. Then, skin walkers start disappearing. She soon finds herself in danger of being next. She must find out why they are disappearing and stop it before it’s too late.
I truly loved this book. I was hooked from page one. I loved the main character’s snarky personality. It made it even easier to read than it already was. That says a lot. I give my props to a well written book. It was easy to get hooked into. I can’t wait to read the rest of this series.
I noticed a few sentence fragments in this show more book, but not many. It’s possible that I even read over them too fast and they weren’t even sentence fragments. This book was very well put together. It was very well edited. It’s very obvious how well thought out this book was.
I fully recommend this book. It’s a great paranormal book. It doesn’t follow the normal trend of the popular paranormal books. It follows its own path. I think that’s one of the things I like best about this book. I like the kind of books that have their own unique twist. I am so glad I was given the opportunity to read this book! show less

Alpha/Panther Shape-shifter Kailin Odel moved away from her clan to live with her Grandmother in Chicago. While on a mission killing Wraith, she comes across a murdered shape-shifter and becomes involved in the case.
One of the things that drew my attention to this book that it takes place in Chicago. Being a Chicagoan, I appreciate books that take place here. That being said, the book could really take place anywhere, but that is okay.
Kailin is a determined heroine. She is intelligent and does what she feels is right. She discovers many things about herself during this story that she handles well.
Detective Logan Westin’s character was well done. He is an agent for Omega, the police unit that investigates the paranormal. He is also a show more fire-mage. I enjoyed the chemistry between him and Kailin.
The plot was well done and mysterious. I liked how a lot of the things that happened seemed to come full circle. There were multiple interesting twists that kept the story enigmatic. The ending was exciting and left me wanting to read the next book in the series to see what happens.

Skin Deep (DarkWorld #1) by T.G. Ayer
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
This is a new series written by T.G. Ayer and it is a great beginning of a series that I definitely going to keep my eye on. The plot and characters are well written, the story flows so well you don’t want to put Skin Deep down till you reach the end.
We first meet Kailin who is a panther shape shifter, she leaves her clan and lives among the human. Kailin spends her days working in the addiction field helping other and at night she is a Wraith hunter.
One evening Kailin comes across a body of a shifter who had been skinned and left for dead. Here is where she meets Logan who is part Omega and works for a special team on the police force who work investigating non-human cases. show more As this investigation is under way Logan and Kailin end up running into each other a lot. The attraction is there and feelings begin to develop between the two.
Skin Deep is full of suspense, mystery and a touch of romance and had me hooked right from the beginning. It is well written and draws you in, I have rated it a 4 star rating and cannot wait to read the next book in this series. T.G. Ayer has outdone herself once again in this Dark World series. I would recommend it to anyone who enjoy paranormal genre. show less

I would like to thank Ms. Ayer for granting me the opportunity to read ebook in exchange for an honest review. Though I received this e-book for free that in no way impacts my review.
Kailin works at the local Rehab Center during the day, and hunts Wraiths under cover of the night. After she left her Panther Clan and moved into Chicago she joined City Deep, an unusual 'clan' made up of a collection of Skinwalkers (Walkers), earthbound Elementals, Mages, and others, all of whom answered to Storm. Kailin left her Clan for several reasons, but the predominant being her father's utter emotional withdrawal after her mother disappeared years ago, and her ability to see and kill Wraiths. She knew her controlling father and other brother would never left her Hunt Wraiths, so she did the unheard of and left. Not long after she left she runs into Anjelo, a youth from her clan. He'd followed the trail she'd blazed, and was now living in City Deep. He'd actually become Storm's right-hand man in many ways. Storm ran City Deep, and between Anjelo and him kept the disparate group from imploding/exploding on any given day.
Kailin leaves work late one night and is walking home when she hears tires screeching her way, followed in the distance by a siren. And thus begins the latest adventure in her life, as if she hasn't got enough of them killing Waiths. A body is tossed out of the vehicle being chased by the police and lands in the garden, not far from where Kailin is standing in the shadows. After both cars go past and are out of view she goes to investigate, only to find another Walker, which she can only tell by his eyes. He holds her stare as he dies, that one look holding so much information. Unfortunately for Kailin, she'd been so wrapped up with the dying Walker she didn't hear the original vehicle returning for their 'cargo.' At least not until they began shooting at her. She puts on the speed and takes off back toward the Center, barely making it into the building. Once there she's safe from these monsters, if only for the moment. Her friend Anjelo comes help patch her up, then has to hide from the cops when they didn't get out of the building before the cops came back for the dumped body.
All of this leads up to her meeting Logan and his partner Jess. They are members of a separate organization that works with the local police. The group, called Omega, handle the unusual cases, A.K.A. the paranormal cases. Kailin and Logan have an instantaneous, intense attraction to each other. Yet she can't tell him the truth about that night as it would risk exposing what she is, and he hasn't mentioned Omega or explained what they are, or who works in Omega. So they are both keeping the truth from each other. They are thrown together as they work to unravel the mystery of the dead Walker after Logan tells Kai about Omega. Kai in turn is forced into sharing some information with Logan, as he has proof that the bad guys are trying to eliminate her specifically. She decides to trust her gut and outs herself to him, shocked at his lack of shock.
The case gets more and more mysterious, with more Walkers disappearing, and rumor of a drug on the streets that affects Walkers, something unheard of. Walkers had always been completely impervious to drugs, at least until now. When Anjelo's girlfriend Lily goes missing Kailin knows she has to work faster, before Anjelo does something stupid like try to save Lily on his own. Several fights and much stunning news leave Kai's head is spinning with all the information she's recently unearthed. Information which ends with her traveling to Wrythiin, the Wraith dimension, courtesy a talisman her Grandmother Ivy gave her.
Once there she finds a unexpected, and shocking, ally. More surprises are soon to
follow, things that will forever change her life. Through the help of her ally she manages to kill Widd'en, the leader of the rebelling faction of Wraiths that have been killing and possessing Humans. While Kailin is able to escape through the portal, her ally is too far from the portal and overtaken by the Wraith army. Kailin can't stay to help her fight due to the severity of her wounds.
The book ends with Kailin wrapped in Logan's arms, and their discovery that where Widd'en's obsidian blade cut her, she has developed some kind nasty infection that's spreading, rapidly. Will the poison kill her? Will she be able to rescue her ally and Anjelo? Can she find and save her sister? All these questions and more are waiting to be answered, hopefully, in book two Lost Soul. show less

Only then did she discover her ability to track and kill the soul sucking undead creatures called Wraiths. Now she protected the humans, and had something to be proud of.show more
But, when she discovers the body of a murdered shape shifter, Kailin has to come to terms with the reality that her own kind are just as vulnerable as the humans.
