Darn you Veronica Roth and your ability to write things that make me stay up all night to finish them! *yawn*

Book hangover aside, I really enjoyed this bit of story. Enjoyed is a weird word to use considering what we go through with Tobias in his days before he becomes Four, but I did like getting to know him better. He has always been a stand out character and I feel like every time we see things from his perspective I just fall in love with him a bit more. 4.5 Stars
I really want to give this one a 3.5.

It wasn't bad or disappointing, so much as it just felt incredibly sparce.

I like that we got to have some insight into Four's mother, how she was and what she did. I like that we saw how Four chose, and watched him go through the same initiation with some smaller, different details. It feels rough and very much a beginning, though, so I'm hoping to see more as we go.

Especially about how Four wanted to be the best of every section and how/why he got the tattoo at which point in his life. I'm hopeful this series will continue to be truly amazing, telling a different story in the world we've come to love.
Go back to where it all begin. Before Tris transferred to Dauntless from Abnegation, there was Tobias Eaton. This short tells the story of his test, the circumstances of his choice, and his start in his new faction.

Having read this after finishing the main series, I found it to be quite poignant (as I did with all of the Four-related prequel stories). Even though they're short, there's a great deal of backstory and character motivation that comes out here. And since I left Allegiant feeling like it's as much about Tobias as it is Tris, it was nice to go back and connect where he is at the end with where he was in the beginning. Definitely recommended for fans of the series, especially those who may have struggled with the way it ended.

Yeah, this is the Tobias/Four I'm talking about! What happened to this strong, compelling dude by Allegiant? It's like he regressed into a weakling later on, and the kind of character development we're seeing here completely contradicts future Tobias/Four. Whatever, this was a small saving grace for the silly little world Veronica Roth painted for us.
Holy crap! Love!

We know how Tris came to be in Dauntless, and we know what we do about Four's past, but we don't KNOW know. And in The Transfer we learn it.
We meet Tobias Eaton pre initiation ceremony, and then we go through it with him and the first day of initiation to Dauntless.
And Oh Mai Gah - we get Four. FOUR!

There was a point where I wanted to hug him and tell him it'll all be okay, because seriously - his father was an asshole-ish abusing bastard. And Tobias was all innocence and honestly and "live and let live" and all that jazz. Sighhh..... love!

Is it Allegiant time yet? I say it's past due.
"My name is Four," I say. "Call me "Stiff" again and you and I will have a problem"

seriously, this one was wonderful. reading about Tobias and his choosing ceremony, making his own way in the world and how he understands and interprets the world. I am so ready for a book from his POV.
