The story of the Edmund Fitzgerald is tragic and mysterious, but in this readers opinion, not compelling enough to fill the pages of a children's book. The fateful voyage is traced into bad weather and reports of sustained damage before the ship disappears, and nobody knows exactly why. Maybe the best way to use this book is to encourage students to speculate about the ship's fate based on the evidence provided and then teach them that sometimes we just have to settle with not knowing.
