Such a beautiful book! My edition is copyrighted 1961. The photographs are bright and beautiful. The layout of the book is pleasing to the eye and I find the text interesting. Quote from close to the end of the book, page 274: "In 440 illustrations we have attempted to reflect the honest beauty of the species represented and, as far as possible, reveal their natural habitat. Only a few of the many flowers pictured have been uprooted or cut to make more pleasing illustrations. We risked quicksand to photograph the Arrowhead; we stood in a glacial stream bed to shoot our specimen of the mountain Fringed Gentian; we tied equipment to a canyon wall to photograph Shrubby Cinquefoil...But it has been fun! And we're happy to have saved a few show more more wildflowers from destruction while observing the rule, "Admire and leave for others to enjoy." show less
