Mikayla's prom night was suppose to be magical, perfect, a night to remember. That is until when she walks in on her boyfriend of 4 years and her best friend hooking up, all she wants to do now is go home and spend the rest of the night in bed with a tub of ice cream.

Just when she's about to give up and skip prom all together, a tall, sexy guy with an Australian accent steps in and invites her to hang out with him and his friends at their prom.

Mikayla's night seems to have been saved, she has more fun than she's had in a long time and more fun than she would have had if she had attended her own prom.

Jake seems to be the perfect guy and Mikayla is more than interested to see where it may lead with him.

However when Jake and Mikayla show more pull up to her house in the limo and its surrounded by police cars and ambulances her whole world comes crashing down around her.

Suddenly Makayla has no one, no boyfriend to hold her, no best friend to comfort her. No one but Jake, who steps up and takes on the roll of everyone she's lost.

They only know each other one night before they become everything to one another and it doesn't take long before doubt seeps in and others begin to wonder if it's circumstances that not only brought them together but circumstances that are keeping them from moving on.

Are their feelings for each other real or merely the result of a tragic bond?

3 hours.

That's how long it took me to read this book.

I picked it up and I didn't move until I was finished.

I can't even explain to you how much I loved it. From the very first page to the last sentence I was hooked.

When you first start this book you're fooled into thinking it's nothing but a cute, romantic, contemporary.

Her prom is ruined, a cute guy steps in to save the day, they fall in love, blah, blah blah.

But in an instant McLean throws you a hard ball and you're left staring at the same page reading and re-reading the same sentence trying not to cry on your iPad.

I loved the dynamic relationship between Jake and Kayla, how understanding and open his family was towards her and how loving they were.

Jake's circle of friends were one of my favorite parts. They were all so lively and unique. I loved the scenes with them, especially Lucy, book nerd Lucy and drunk Lucy.

The whole time I was reading this I couldn't quit imagining Jay McLean as the Evil Queen (in Once Upon A Time) ripping my heart out of my chest and squeezing it. Everyone once in a while she'd put it back only to repeat the process a couple chapters later. And for that she is now one of my all time favorite authors.

I can't say enough good things about this book, just stop reading this review now and go pick yourself up a copy... Now... NOW!!!

Until next time,
Ginger

4.5 stars.
I so much more than liked this book.

It was freaking amazing. Jay McLean, where the hell have you been hiding??? Damn!

Ok, so here are my feelings:

Kayla (or Mickey if you aren't family) has a charmed life. A boyfriend that is her high school sweetheart. A best friend that is with her through everything. Parents that are adorably in love and a home life that is full of love and happiness.

Until everything is ripped away from her in one fateful night. Everything. Her boyfriend, her best friend and her family. All gone.

"In one night my fairytale ended. Or it may have begun..."

But also on that night, Kayla meets Jake. And she doesn't know it, but she is standing in front of her forever.

Jake. Oh, sweet, sweet Jake. He isn't show more perfect...but he is damn close. He is her fairytale. He is her prince. He is just awesome. In so many ways.

"Do not settle for anything less than the Jake Andrews of the world. Because they exist, and not just in fairytales."

You know what is insane about this book? The delayed gratification. Holy CRAP!! I have never been so anxious for two people to just freaking KISS! It was killing me. Yep, I was in pain. I wanted that smooch more than I wanted someone to kiss ME! I was dying for it. Well played Jay McLean, well played indeed. You made me stay up reading until a ridiculous hour to get that damn kiss. *sigh* It was worth it though, totally worth it. (and I am not going to tell you all when it happens!)

The other amazing thing about this book is the number of wonderful secondary characters there are. Lucy and Cam?? OMG!! They just made me want to hang out with them! Even James ended up being awesome. Really...everyone minus one major asshole was awesome. And that asshole? Damn!! What we learn about her at the end? Blew.my.mind.

Ok, my lovelies. You know I won't steer you wrong. Go get this book and read it. And fall a little bit in love with Jake and the whole crew.

And the great news? Logan is coming with his own book soon! So we will get more of all of them! (hopefully!)

Prom should have been everything for Mikayla. She catches her boyfriend doing something he shouldn't be doing, before they even make it to prom. Despite the pain she feels, she meets Jake who ends up taking her to his own prom. Their connection is what helps her overcome her pain that James caused her, and still have a memorable night. When the night is finally over, and she feels she has somewhat recovered from her pain, she gets the most devastating news of her life, and it definitely becomes a night she will never forget.

Mikayla and Jake have a once in a life time connection that only few find. It was touching to follow along their slow relationship that builds while Mikayla heals emotionally. She may not know exactly who she is show more without Jake since he's been there since the day her life changed, but it doesn't matter because he is a part of her, and she is a part of him. They are a perfect match and their story brought me to tears at some points.

The book is very well written. It's separated into different viewpoints between Jake and Mikayla. It was great to see the viewpoints they had on everything, and how similar they thought without even realizing it. This is a 5/5 book for me, and I'm headed over to buy the second book in the series.

edit: $1.99 sale over the weekend!!! Linkie Link.

Let's be clear that I'm rating the story. I know the book is being edited atm, so I'll let it slide :).

On a night Mikayla's life changes in every way imaginable, she meets Jake.
Insta love made sense to me. Through it all he's like an anchor to her, keeping her grounded, being that lifeline for her. These two have great chemistry, too, and I loved their relationship. It wasn't the intense/must-have-NAO thing, more like...sweet and simmering and just waiting to boil. Loved it.

In this sense, I think, if I had to compare this to another book, it would be [b:Callum & Harper|13122965|Callum & Harper (Sleepless, #1)|Fisher show more Amelie|http://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/books/1322521960s/13122965.jpg|18298587].
I loved Callum & Harper.
I also had a major issue with them not talking to each other.
Same thing I had an issue with in this book. I just wanted to sort of imaginary tie them together and be like "Okay, now talk! Say things."

Jake was the perfect swoon-worthy hero, which is something everyone who told me to read this book promised. I was never worried he might do something to piss me off, not even for a second. From the first moment he sees that Kayla needs someone, he's it for her. I loved it! Loved it so freaking much that there was never a DOUBT in my mind about his integrity. More books need heroes like these. Like, lots more books. Lots!

Oh, I breezed through this book, it's so very readable! The characters are likable, and all shades of gray, like even the cheating boyfriend was more than just a cheating boyfriend (not a spoiler).
I loved all of Jake's friends. Dylan and Heidi, drunk Lucy was my fave. Logan, I wanna read your story and am so so happy it's being written. I'm hoping it won't be too heartbreaking. I was so onto you, Logan. I knew your secret! I also may be partial to characters named Logan. Always like them.

The writing is engaging and equal parts sad/funny/sweet/cute. It's told in dual POV which I appreciated A LOT because it switches POV just at the right time.

Some major feels from this book, seriously.

For those who care, there are a couple of mildly graphic sex scenes ;). I must say I didn't expect them... for some reason. But they weren't overdone and I think it suited the story.

Okay, overall? Read this book. I'm pretty confident once it's all edited and prettied up it will be a great read! As it is, I still didn't mind it too much - the typos and grammar errors, they weren't that distracting. The story is actually so good, it completely overshadowed that. So, yeah. Basically, I recommend.

“God Jake, I so much more than a lot like you."
"Mikayla, I passed that stage a long, long time ago.”

I thought this was a cute love story that had an interesting tragic side to it. But I thought her holding out on Jake was just a bit....ridiculous. I also thought the chapters with the jealousy back and forth were never going to end - I just think maybe my reading taste has shifted and these angsty over-the-top romances are not my cup of tea anymore.
I was so into this book until about 60% when it became apparent I wasn't going to get a glimpse of what their lives were like as a couple. It just took too long for them to get it together. I was actual skimming from 60-90% because it was the same crap over and over. My own book tastes tend to enjoy the actual "togetherness" part more than the "exploring our feelings" part. I like both parts but not if one out weighs the other. I also thought it was unbelievable that Kayla didn't turn in her friend when she found out the truth.
