Live young. Live hard. Love deep.

Charley Redford was just an ordinary girl until Jake Caplin moved to her small town in Indiana and convinced her she was extraordinary. Almost from day one Jake pulled Charley into the deep and promised he was right there with her. But when a tragic incident darkened Jake's life he waded show more out into the shallows and left Charley behind.

Almost four years later Charley thinks she's moved on. That is until she takes a study year abroad in Edinburgh and bumps into none other than Jake Caplin at a party with his new girlfriend. The bad-boy-turned-good attempts to convince Charley to forgive him, and as her best friend starts spending time with Jake's, Charley calls a truce, only to find herself tumbling back into a friendship with him.

As they grow closer, the spark between them flares and begins playing havoc with their lives and relationships. When jealousy and longing rear their destructive heads, Charley and Jake struggle to come to grips with what they mean to one another.

And even if they work it out, there is no guarantee Charley will ever trust Jake to lead her back into the deep...

Second chance love. What happens when you meet your soul mate when you are 16 and then things go terribly wrong. Charley and Jake have obstacles. When they meet again 3 years later and Jake has another girlfriend I wanted to throw my kindle. The supporting cast made me keep reading and fall in love with these characters. While they spend a year in Scotland (where Jake suspected he would find Charley again to make amends)it only takes him a few weeks to realize he is still in love with Charley. Does he end things with Melissa? NO. I takes a few more months of him trying to be a nice guy and one rather difficult run in with Charley's father before he gets it. I need to know more about Jake and Charley and how they each find their HEA. I show more hope it is together. I really hope the second book is more of a Claudia/Beck focus. I can't take more angst from Charley and Jake. show less
Exactly what I needed..
Samantha Young did it again.. She took me to places I haven't been in a while and got me out of my recent Book Funk I have been in since reading Stepbrother Dearest. I absolutely adored all the characters in this book and although I was rooting for Jake and Charley. I was one of those silent cheerleaders for other characters in the book. I am so mad at the ending though but I guess it will draw me in to read the next one in the series.

Brilliant.
Ms. Young is quickly catching up to my all time favorite author, Ms. Ashley! This book was a great read for me! I wouldn't call the ending a cliff hanger but all is not resolved in this book.....there will be a second. I thought it was a sweet romance with just a bit of angst thrown in. I enjoyed the secondary characters and their stories also.
Unfortunately, I didn't really enjoy this book. Everything in this book is a little blah when I compare it to the other New Adult reads that I have read in the past year. Jake isn't really a "bad boy"--yes, he's a bit of a player but there are "badder" boys out there, that's for sure! And Charley is just pain boring. She is the typical "not overly pretty" heroine that every boy is in love with and they only bother trying to make a move on her once she is with someone else. I don't know why they like her other than her looks--she doesn't exactly have a winning personality to me. I actually was more interested in Charley's BFF Claudia and would love to read more about her story.

As for the plot, I found it predictable and--not show more surprisingly--dull given my impression of the two main characters. While I liked trying to figure of the mystery of the "incident" by having the flashbacks to the past: it just wasn't enough for me to be overly impressed with this book. The plot is also slow which I found frustrating considering I knew where it was going to go the whole time--at times I just wished it would get to the point already. I enjoy a touch of drama in my novels and this didn't have a lot going on--I felt like the book never really climaxed. I think if we had an alternating perspective between Jake and Charley I would have enjoyed it a lot more.

It is also important to note that Charley and Jake's story doesn't end within this novel, but continues in the sequel [b:Out in the Shallows] which explains why nothing really climaxed in this novel.

Overall: This book is slow in my opinion but if you enjoy reading about reunited loves who are trying to find themselves as they navigate their relationship, this is probably one for you. A nice jump into the New Adult genre without the (often) over the top drama usually found in the genre and not as sexy-time focused either. So if you enjoy high drama, bad boys or characters touched by tragedy--avoid this series and pick something else up!

I wish i'd known going in it ended on a to be continued...I would have waited to read it. The characters are younger in this book than in the others of Young's I've read. I didn't enjoy this story as much. The main reason I don't read YA is because I don't care to read high school romances. With the bouncing back and forth from the past to the present, that's what I felt like I was reading.

I did enjoy the book, but not as much as her Dublin Street series. I do plan to read the next book.
I absolutely love Samantha Young! My all time favorite book in contemporary romance is "On Dublin Street." This book has a lot of Young's flare, but I still love the Joss and Braden romance more. Another very good book though!
