This book was so funny!!! I really enjoyed making all the different noises of the woodland critters. Owl got the last laugh!! =)
The illustrations with repeating patterns are very interesting, and lend kind of a geometric interest to the art. I love that there are many different kinds of birds and tree-dwellers represented, and that each one makes a unique sound. This would be good with a room full of preschoolers.
An owl has difficulty sleeping when various animals (mostly birds) decide to perch on his tree during the day. However, the owl gets his revenge at night...
Good repetition and children may enjoy the animals noises, but the story ends with what is maybe not the best of messages--especially for younger children (i.e. revenge is an acceptable way to react to upsetting situations).

Poor owl, tries to sleep in a tree filled with noisy woodland critters. Anyone that has ever worked graveyard shift will totally feel his pain. Until the sun goes down, that is, and it is his turn to be noisy.
Ultra-repetitive but fairly charming fable of nocturnal shenanigans.
Good Night owl By: Pat Hitchins
This is a book about an owl that can't sleep because all of his friends are being noise during the day. Owl decides that he would like to wake everyone up at night when they are trying to sleep.
Note: This would be a good flannel bored story. One could turn it in to a story with daddy, grandma, mom, sisters, brothers, friends and even aunts and uncles.
I believe children would learn that it's not polite to wake others when they are sleeping.

Ack! Sorry, but I *cannot* endorse a book that teaches payback, that condones revenge. I like the 'backyard bird' theme in the art, but the message of the book is *bad.*
