This was a suggested title in a webinar on street lit. While I appreciate it as a depiction of the realities and fantasies of the disenfranchised, I found it unintentionally hilarious. John Gottman would have a field day with Gena and Quadir's relationship, and when Gah Git describes Gena and Quadir's love as "pure and honest," I fell out just rolling my eyes. ( )

Teri Woods a relativly fresh author wrote the novel True to the Game in light of her teenage reveries. This fast paced book takes place in Philladelphia. The main character, Gena has a desire for the expensive life style and will do just about anything to get it. Gena however is hip to the fact that all money is not good money and the men Gena involved her self with did not make their money the good way, but it was fast and spendable. After dealing with the "heavy hittters" of the drug game around her way, Gena incountered a real live lottery ticke by the name of, Quadir (Courtesy of Gena's bestfriend Sahriah). Realizing Quadir was the man of her dreams as well as the richest Gena became attached to Quadir as well as his money and life style. Spending thousands of dollars weekly, partying and being secure for a small price of being loyall Quadir was all too simple. However for an 18 year old, beautiful young lady she was very naive to all the "game" had in store and the rules or the lacking there of. Gena so emersed in the expensive life style she so quickly became accustomed to was too much of a risk. A young girl out of Richard Allen projects in Philly become isolated with only her money, house, cars, clothes and jewlry to keep her company. Gena lost her bestfriend, Sahriah to the game, her family and eventually her man. The loss of Quadir hit Gena hard but not as hard as having to make it on her own; something she never had to do. The shock of losing the love of her life and everything she owned sent the beauty into isolation. However Gena did not know just how "large" Quadir really was. While dying in her arms Quadir left Gena everything he had, Gena just had to find it. This book is a true page turner and a very easy read. I read this book in 2 days and I can't wait to read the second one. Teri Woods really hitsa home run in this tell all, fast paced, urban nigthtmare and dream all in one.
