I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This was a book that evoked a few reactions from me: laughter (the dialogue with Naomi), empathy (for Jude's past), hot & bothered (the Hawaii trip), shock (Charley's mom), sadness (for Charley's story) and last but not least a combination of happy and sad (happy for the outcome, sad cause that meant the book was over).
Both characters were developed fairly well; Jude could have been portrayed as an egotistical, arrogant jackass, but he owned up to why he was the way he was. He could have come across as only playing the game simply to get he wanted from Charley, but underneath to glib attitude was someone who not only wanted Charley, but truly wanted to help her overcome her show more issues.
Charley's past is tragic, and because of that she doesn't let herself get close to people (with the exception of Naomi, and even she doesn't know everything). And then she meets Jude, who wants to be with her yet doesn't know how to get past her defenses.
A sweet love story about learning to let go of the past in order to move forward in life and love. show less
