Si Eleanor ne peut oublier Sean, son premier amour dont elle attend le retour depuis quatre longues années, elle refuse toutefois de céder au chagrin et se résout à faire un choix raisonnable, davantage par désespoir que par amour : se fiancer au richissime Lord Sinclair, un gentleman anglais que ses parents ont toujours rêvé de la voir épouser. Mais tous ses plans sont bouleversés lorsque, à la veille de son mariage, Sean réapparaît.
