It's a complex love story between 3 men that started as a simple fascination between two of them. Josiah is the typical foster kid...quiet, polite, and fairly solitary. He is unprepared for his new roommate to be so rough...bad...and unbelievably fascinating. Mateo knows nothing but darkness, yet he has a heart of pure gold. It does not take long for a relationship of trust and adoration to develop as neither had ever been so cared for. The progression of first looks to first touches and to first intimacy was done so very well. It was almost too good to be true, but each knew that the lingering dark past would/could ultimately break their hearts. Then we fast forward to a new life... a new time, and Josiah is drifting thru life. A sexy show more stranger with his own shattered life makes a single proposition and turns Josiah into the strong and determined man that Teo always knew was there. Tristan is drawn to the goodness and the caring of Josiah, but while giving him a new life and a new "relationship," he is unable to give all of himself fully to Josiah. Josiah still isn't fully healed himself...his first love still holds a piece of his heart. I was never sure how this story would turn out. I didn't really like Josiah much. I didn't at first see why he was so appealing, but when his past and his present collided, I could truly see how he would bring Teo and Tristan together. This is when this story became simply amazing. Two men who had fought themselves at last saw their worth in each other's mistakes. Teo and Tristan may have been together because of Josiah, but their connection was no less important. Leave it to Riley Hart to write another fabulous M/M romance and for turning up the heat with one of the hottest threesome I have ever read. show less
This is the second book I've read by this author, and I have to say, if this is the way she keeps writing, she will definitely become a favourite of mine very quickly.
I do admit, that I had a little trouble getting into the story. Part of that is my own little hangup on not really wanting to read about very young characters and it seemed that this book was heading that way. Needless, and lucky for me, I shouldn't have worried and we moved past that point very quickly. And that's when the story grabbed hold of me and refused to let go!
These three men, all of them broken in some way, are by far some of the most beautiful and heart breaking MC's I've read about in a while. They all fit together so well, but it's a real journey to get show more anywhere close to that point. This book takes us through different stages in all of their lives, but there is so much still to be told. So much I still want and need to know. We get a firm HFN in this book, but I'm very glad that there is another one somewhere in the planning! I want more of Teo, Josiah and Tristan. show less

What I liked:
- Well, everything! :D
- The characters grew over time - I enjoyed how Josiah changed very much
- The relationships were slow paced and they were real
- There was no need for suspension of disbelief concerning their getting together, as with most threesome books
- The writing was good - engaging and fast paced, without lingering too much on the drama
- It made me all mushy inside in the best way possible
What I didn't like:
- Mateo was not in focus enough, and as far as I can see he grew the least as a character. I'm hoping that will be remedied in the next book.
- No info on what happened to Mateo after Josiah left

I have never liked much ménages a trois, so maybe I had some prejudices starting this novel, but I have to say the author managed to convince me this triangle was not only possible, but even satisfying for all men involved.
Josiah and Mateo, just one year apart from each other, met while in the same foster home: Josiah the good guy, but painfully shy, already aware of being gay, but with absolutely no courage of admitting it; Mateo, the bad boy, from the wrong side of town, waiting to be of age to go back to the gang his father was leading and that he was supposed to replace. Nothing seems to link them if not they are both orphans and gay, and with an emptiness that, to their young age, seems possible to fulfill only being together, show more their two alone against the world.
But of course it is not so easy to let behind your past, and they need a mainstay, someone like Tristan; even if no one would say Mateo needs protection, I had the feeling Tristan wanted to expiate his supposed past crimes taking care not only of Josiah but also Mateo. Taking care of Josiah is easy, he is like a puppy, someone who looks at you with hope in his eyes, so much that it’s impossible to say no. But Mateo is like a stray dog, someone who doesn’t look you cause he doesn’t want to trust again for the fear of being betrayed again; but like a stray dog, if you manage to convince him you are worthy of his love, he will repay you with ten thousand more love back.
This is an erotic romance, and as such, the sex scenes are a good share, and an important element of the story. Said that, it’s also important to notice that there is a story indeed beyond that, and this is what I appreciate more.

Who needs sleep or go to work when you have three hot men waiting on your kindle for you?
I loved this book which means I was laughing or crying through most of it.
Josiah just wants to love and to be loved in return. He is the glue that holds them all together.
Mateo has had a hard life. His 'family' making him do things that literally make him sick. He is the protector and would do anything and I do mean anything to protect the ones that he loves.
Tristan hides his emotions from the ones he loves because he thinks they will use his love against him.
Tristan's mom is awesome. Yes she 'broken' like the rest of them but all she wants is for Tristan to be happy no matter what it takes or who it is.
Riley Hart did an amazing job on this first show more book of the series. I can't wait to read the next one. show less

UPDATED Feb. 7, 2014: For those (like me, especially since Josiah and Mateo were so young at the beginning of the book) having trouble putting faces to these three boys, head over to Jess-i-ca's fabulous review to see who she envisioned. I think she nailed it!
There was a lot of happy-hoopla going on with my GoodRead friends for this book when it was first released in February 2014 and that had me excited and convinced me to read this right away. (That and the gorgeous cover photo!) Most said it was filled with angst but well worth the misery then wrote a rave review and rated the book 5 stars. Now, I agree with the lots-of-angst assessment. And I agree that this book could absolutely be a 5 star book for many, many people and will most show more likely end up with a 4 star cumulative rating over time. But for me? The angst spiraled out of control and never let up long enough for me to enjoy the story. I love the three boys, Tristan, Josiah and Mateo, and look forward to the continuation of their story in a sequel that is in the works, now that they have had their HEA, but the 10 years it took to get there in [b:Broken Pieces|18874773|Broken Pieces|Riley Hart|https://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/books/1385998416s/18874773.jpg|26875233] kicked my ass and left me in tears for more then half the book. Uncomfortable, depressed tears that had me popping Advil for headaches and having to put my reader down because I couldn't see the screen through tears.
This one still gets 3 stars because it was a great story and I'm psyched for the sequel, but it is going on my everyone liked it but me shelf since I am definitely in the minority with this one, so be sure to check other reviews before deciding to pass on it! It is a M/M romance favorite by many, many good friends whose judgement I trust. My feelings about the angst could have been just a bad time for me to be reading this kind of book. *shrugs* I may give it another try when the sequel comes out. show less
This is not a simple story. While I felt that the motivations were repeated more than I needed, I know why. Not everyone reads a book in a day. :)
The span of time this story encompasses is good, it gives a solid feel to how the relationships develop and grow deeper. I really enjoyed being there for the origin, it made the eventual triad so much more realistic. Jealousy does a lot of damage - but though it's felt, they took the time to remember the trust, the love that brought them together. There is a great deal of mutual respect among the characters, something any good partnership nurtures.
I bought the next book in the series. That's my highest compliment. That, and writing reviews.
