Description

Tall and thin, twenty-eight-year-old Bronwyn Palmer has become positively gaunt, a ghost of her former self. That self was--and still is--the wife of a rich, handsome executive with an ocean-view house and his own security staff. It was in that house, two years ago, that Bryce Palmer learned Bronwyn was pregnant with their first child. But Bryce's rage over his impending fatherhood touched off a chain reaction of emotional and physical traumas that wounded them both. For Bronwyn, it meant show more fleeing the perfect marriage to start over with nothing but a precocious daughter named Kayla to care for. For Bryce, it meant a tortuous two years spent blaming his wife for deserting him, and living with the pain of not knowing his child. Now a chance encounter has brought Bronwyn back into Bryce's life, both bearing scars...and neither knowing the whole truth of that fateful night that drove them apart. show less

In the heat of the moment hurtful words can be spoken and unfortunately they usually have little to do with the present moment, and so was the case with the news of Bronwyn's pregnancy and Bryce's reaction to it. This tale of unspoken words, mistaken assumptions and broken souls, was heart wrenching to read.

This book pulled no punches from page 1 and, once again, I was drawn into the characters relationship, immediately feeling the hurt and heartache that accompanied Bryce's words.

My heart went out to Bronwyn and each hurtful word spoken cut deeper every time. Bryce was cruel and spiteful in his words and actions towards Bronwyn, and I was curious as to how he was going to redeem himself. When we discover the full extent of Bryce's show more traumatic childhood, we come to understand why he has the opinion he has of himself and how it affected his present day thinking. I didn't agree with him keeping this a secret for so long but he is a proud man and thought that the consequences of telling his story to Bronwyn would be far worse than keeping it to himself. In the end it came down to trust between two people that would build a far stronger relationship.

Brownwyn was a shattered woman when Bryce threw her out and I thought she had courage to maintain her independence after Kayla was born. I thought her actions once Bryce was back in her life were understandable, even though I didn't agree to the extent to which she made Bryce atone at one point. She had suffered a lot of emotional pain at his hands and she was protecting her child and her own heart.

Particularly in the first half of the book, for me, this relationship had a sort of historical romance/Mills & Boon feel to it, the dialogue between the characters, some of the characters reactions and the general narration. I found it easy to relate to the characters and enjoyed the dual point of view, giving us both sides of the story. I thought the flashbacks blended well with the storyline and gave us just enough each time without giving away the entire plot in one go.

It was an angsty read and although I did feel that halfway through, the book lost a bit of momentum for me, it did pick up again and I thought it finished well. I enjoyed the epilogue and thought that the time frame was perfect.

Even thought this is part of a series, it can be read as a standalone and I am looking forward to the third book in this series.

Bronwyn left two years earlier when her husband, Bryce, told her to get out after learning she was pregnant. Struggling to make enough to support herself and her child, she is discovered when she becomes ill and Bryce brings them both home. She is shocked to find out that he was in an accident while she was gone and is now deaf.
Both of them have misunderstood the other and now fears and mistrust run deep. With the help of their adorable child, they must find a way back to each other.
I enjoyed this story; it tugs at one's heartstrings. Parts of the storyline were just a little too 'over-the-top' for me at times, but both Bryce and Bronwyn make for a nice couple and their romance is just different enough to make their story interesting show more and a bit different than the usual fare. show less
This was okay. It felt like it was a bit too long for the amount of story. Also the reason that the hero hated her was a bit of a stretch. There was an explanation but it was not real strong. The bit after he discovers his mistake was where the story drug on a bit too much. I did ultimately enjoy it though.
I read "A Husbands Regret" by Natasha Anders, published by Montlake Romance. I requested this title from NetGalley in order to review it.

This was a very painful novel to read. It was very interesting and I was unable to put it down, but the story was hard to read because of the way the characters, Bryce and Bronwyn, kept doing and saying hurtful things. Most of all Bryce seemed to be so unapproachable most of the time and then again could be so loving and gentle. I kept wondering what his problem was. Bronwyn seemed to be a weak character in that instead of standing up for herself, she ran away from confrontation. This sort of maneuvering by each kept up for two years. The story seemed to start when Bronwyn became pregnant by mistake. show more Bryce was not ready to have children yet and his reaction was very over the top. The author wrote very intense dialogue between these two which made it hard for me to read. It is a very good book and after you find out just why each acted the way they did it made sense. Just read it with an open mind and try not to get too over-reactive as you do.

I was sent a free kindle copy of this book by NetGalley in return for my honest review.

Angst. There is so much angst in this book. Anger, disappointment, love and sadness bare also parts of the story. I can count on the fingers of my one hand the moments when things between Bryce and Bronwyn were good and they weren't fighting or insulting each other. So, if you read the book be prepared. From Bronwyn's point of view Bryce was awful, but after learning why he acted the way he did, he was forgiven.

Honestly the constant fighting and the way things wrote rocky between the couple most of the time wrote tiring. I would have liked to see them for a period of time together and happy (or trying to be). Everything else was good.
Strong FMC!

I hated him for just over 50% of the book. She gave in to BBS for a minute but got smarter as the story progressed. She was always strong except for that one time she gave in but then we saw how he treated her and she learned his body was her weakness and she grew a stronger backbone.
Trigger for an emotionally abusive husband at the beginning. I wasn't sure I wanted to wait for the redemption. I did, but I didn't like this one as well as the first.
