I really enjoyed reading this. I liked the mix of the personal and objective, and found the book totally absorbing. It portrays Mary Morris's doubts about her own life, while capturing the lives of the ordinary people around her in the mid 1980s. It is very evocative of Russia especially.
i liked this better than her book about mexico. the trip was very interesting and her personal issues were too.
