Wow, it's been a while since I've read a really good psychological serial killer story, that was this well written! This author is gifted with words. Not only were the main characters well thought out and immensely likeable, but there was more than a little thought given to the deranged raging of the killer's mind. The victims were well-shaped, as well, which somehow made their deaths more tragic, more creepy.
A thrill a minute!
To say CONDUIT is a thriller is an understatement. From the first page to the harrowing conclusion, this is an absolute page-turner.
It is the story of Emily Monroe, a closet psychic and private investigator, who is stalked mentally by another psychic who is also a serial killer. David, the serial killer, uses the strong psychic energy generated by his victims' terror and pain to connect to Emily, who he fantasizes is his true love. Emily and her partner, ex-cop, Cassie, are asked by veteran homicide detective, Lionel Edwards (Cassie's uncle) to consult on the case, thus involving them intimately with the details of the brutal murders. Suffice to say, the terror escalates as David gets deeper and deeper into Emily's show more psyche and she must use all her talents and the talents of those around her to try to find a way to survive.
I thoroughly enjoyed this novel, but must give you a word of warning: Don't read the final chapters late at night or you might find yourself sleeping with the lights on! show less

Emily Monroe and her best friend, Cassie Reid, own the Monroe & Reid Investigators. Their agency has a reputation for getting results. Partly because of Emily's psychic abilities, which only Cassie knows about. But Emily's abilities have changed, and now she's hearing voices, screaming her name, in terror. Then, she wrote two words not in her handwriting, hear me. What does this all mean? What does it have to do with a serial killer that is brutally murdering women and leaving their bodies with one initial craved into each woman, that spells out, Can you hear me?
This story gripped me from the beginning with our introduction to the serial killer and his hapless victim. What a cold, calculating, psychopath he is. Of course, aren't they show more all? As the story progresses, Emily runs across Jake Hanley, a man working for her ex-boyfriend. They both feel a strong, mutual attraction that they can't explain. But Emily's aunt does. It's the same reason her and Cassie are such good friends. The characters are well-defined and I really liked the secondary characters, especially Leo and his wife Barbara. I also enjoyed the love interest between Emily and Jake.
The only drawback was I found the plot line pretty predictable. No surprises, at least for me. I also didn't like Emily's decision NOT to share her information with the police over what she knew about the serial killer. I didn't find that believable. But it did help add drama to the story. Overall, it's a good, fast-paced story and I give it 4 feathers. show less

The author has a very engaging style which makes you feel like you are right there in the action. The story is very different in that it deals not directly with police and detectives but a psychic investigator that the police use from time to time to help with their investigations when they hit a brick wall in their inquiries. Little does the psychic Emily know that while being brought in to assist the police, as the movie trailers say... this time it's personal.
Emily Monroe has some psychic abilities, and uses them discretely in the PI firm she owns with her best friend while hiding her gift from most of the world. But a really bad guy has his sights on Emily to complement his own psychic abilities.
A great cast of characters - friends, police detectives and a new friend with psychic abilities as well work to protect Emily while searching out the bad guy.
The story was mostly believable, the writing very good, the romance didn't overtake the book. I hope this is the beginning of a series!

Interesting idea but the writer just didn't pull it off. Spent more time rolling my eyes than enjoying the book.
