A gripping account of Jewish resistance to the Nazis in Poland, and the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising in particular. Zivia Lubetkin was one of the few fortunate fighters who survived the war, and she made it her mission that her dead comrades would be remembered. Although Zivia had no particular flair as a writer and none of the individual characters really stands out, her story, written in a matter-of-fact way, tells itself most thrillingly. There is a useful biographical index in the back, detailing the lives and fates of many of the people mentioned in this memoir.
