I've read the 2001-edition and that clearly was outdated (don't know whether more recent editions were updated). VanderKam also only looks at the post-exile period.

For purposes of this book "early Judaism" is defined as the Second Temple Period, that is, the time from the reconstruction of the Temple under Zerubbabel until the destruction of the Temple in 70 A.D.
