What a good story!

Our man Adam is doing his best, but he got a rough start, and life ever since seems to have it in for him. But he gets a little window of time from his cousin, and meets a man with enough hope to share. As Finn keeps trying, Adam survives heart-crushing, growls through funny bits, and Finn guides him through such poignant parts that I was in tears in just a few lines of text.

Darrin's candy store, and Darrin himself, seem to have some kind of magic. I've checked out the next in the series (Bitter Taffy). I love how vividly Amy Lane writes these characters. I'm glad I hadn't started this series until now, so my library has them all. :)
I wasn't really sure what to expect from this story, but it was definitely better than my expectations! I really enjoyed the candy store-front setting, the funky wise-man/fairy godfather, the insta-friends in the staff etc. Its a feel-good, happy, sweet idea, with a matching book boyfriend (Finn) for Adam.

“Abort, abort, abort! Friendly human is taking me somewhere I don’t want to go!”
“Right now you and me are-we’re a sketch. And we could be a real great picture someday, with ink and oils or watercolor, and hell we may even be a movie”

What a sweet sugary story. Grumpy ex-military and we guy who won’t give up.

Stalking, lemon candy, homicidal cats, artists, and burgers
