Description
Dorothy Koomson captivated readers with her international bestseller My Best Friend's Girl. Now she dazzles us once again with a tale of love, friendship, and families--the choices that shatter them, the hope that saves them, and the little moments that happen in between. Kendra Tamale is looking for a fresh start and a simple life when she rents a room from Kyle Gadsborough. But against her better judgment Kendra soon finds herself drawn into her new landlord's household: a young father in show more way over his head, a beautiful mother out the door, and six-year-old twins, Summer and Jaxon, with hearts full of hurt. Kendra has plenty of issues of her own, but this family seems to need her so desperately that she's soon falling in love--with Summer's constant chatter, Jaxon's soulful eyes, and the sugar-laden Saturday breakfasts she invents. But when a secret from Kendra's past resurfaces and the children are taken away by their mother, the only way to fix things is to confess to the terrible mistake she made many years ago--and the choice she makes now could break more than one person's heart. show lessTags

Wonderful balance of sad, happy, light, deep. Realistic emotion without the main characters falling in love. Makes me want to read more by this author.
Kendra is the narrator of this book. She's a young woman recently returned from Australia to the UK, after a romantic problem. She has found a quiet studio apartment and hopes to be anonymous for a while... but finds herself rapidly embroiled in the chaotic and emotive life of her landlord and his twin six-year-olds.
The characterisation is very good, and I found myself particularly drawn to the twins: bright and loyal children who have suffered through their parents' separation, and who take a sudden and unexplained liking to Kendra.
There's not a whole lot of plot in the present - the novel relies on the gradual unfolding of the past, not just for Kendra but also for her landlord and his wife, and (to a lesser degree) her boss. But if show more you like warm, character-driven novels with likeable people and good interactions, I'd recommend this highly.

I liked this book, not loved it. Its a sweet story about a broken woman (you'll find out what happened to her) who becomes mended by twin 6 year olds and she, in return helps them. It also involved the parents of the kids, her friends etc. etc. but the heart of the story is the relationship with Kendra, Summer and Jaxon. Its a quick read (despite its length) and a sweet book but its not one that I will think about again.

I fell in love with the characters in the first book I read by Ms Koomson. That was My Best Friends Girl. The characters were very real and sympathetic.
In Marshmallows I never felt like the characters had any depth. Even the children were'nt particularly likeable. I know that they were meant to be shown at their worst because of what they'd been thru, but I found I didn't care. I took me nearly 3 months to finish this, which rarely happens with a book.

Finished it yesterday. I liked it but not as much as I did Goodnight Beautiful.
Both books are a bit weird, I mean she writes about things that can happen in real life but also about things that are a bit weird.
Like this woman meets the twins and falls in love and she is there slave? She does not read a letter of the man she loves for nearly a year. Geez here I thought I had a big avoidant personality disorder, but this beats mine. I do not open my bills sometimes ;)
All in all i want to read more by this author.
Give this an 8 out of 10. or 3.5 stars out of 5

This is a Fabulous book. I fell into it from page one. Wonderfully written and at times heartbreaking. The characters were great, I really warmed to them. This is one book I would love to fall into the pages of again.
