Alternating between the reality of day and the mystery of night, this story of déjà vu and righting past wrongs will delight fans of Susanna Kearsley and Sarah Addison Allen. Interview with the Author What was your inspiration to write Close to Destiny? I used to stay at a beautiful, mysterious London hotel for business trips. The dim and elegant setting made me think of clandestine parties, midnight encounters, dreams. I wove these elements-with a dash of magic-into this love story. It seems as if it might fall into several genres? It's contemporary literary fiction / women's fiction, yet includes magical realism and a touch of paranormal romance. Readers say it reminds them of the time travel romance The Time Traveler's Wife and novels by Sarah Addison Allen. I included mystical romance to transport the reader to another place... and to question our notions of reality. And in general, I aim to write fiction that is fast-paced, with surprising plot twists. What message do you hope readers take with them? The book deals with facing (or refusal to face) mistakes of the past, healing old wounds and starting over. And for any of us who has ever wondered, "Do I have a soulmate? Will I ever find my soulmate?" this story addresses that in a unique way. Another important theme is (big surprise) destiny. How much control do we have over our own destiny? What are your favorite genres to read? I enjoy a wide variety, but my favorites are literary fiction and women's fiction with strong female protagonists. And I like a little twist of magical realism. show less

Spoiler alert.******* While I believe the author has a great imagination and the writing itself is good, I did not enjoy the story, therefore the 2.5 stars rating. I think the book would have been more interesting if the reader found out at the end that Kat is really crazy and the events in the book, just thoughts in her head. Many times I wondered if this would be the outcome. Anyway, this is a strange "love story" about Kat and Will. They were lovers in a previous life, destined to be together in the present. A medium named Destiny (yes really) brings them together thru late night parties, some including spirits, at a large hotel in London. Destiny never tells Kat the entire story before she dies and Kat is forced to put on a magic show more hat (yes really) to find out some of the details of her past life, in order to move on with her current life. show less

I enjoyed the reading very much. A young woman who had several suicide attemps behind her was invited to a gallery to present her drawings which she made during her therapy. In the hotel where she lived were happening strange things. There were figures from the past but also persons who are still alive. She was never sure if she was dreaming or in reality. By and by she learned that the whole orchestration was made to help to find herself.
It was a fast-paced gripping reading.

First of all this was a quick read. Second huh? I found this book confusing. I didn't care for Katherine. She was a whinny, crier. The fact that she was so in love with Will and didn't really know him didn't seem real to me. It was confusing if she was dreaming or if she was really seeing these people. I didn't care that she trusted Destiny so quickly and then seemed distraught when something happens to Destiny. I felt there were way too many things missing, it felt rushed and it was just okay for me. The writing wasn't bad, the storyline just didn't make too much sense to me. Oh, and could her sister be more annoying. She sure tired to control Katherine.

I received the ebook in exchange for an honest review. The protagonist is recovering from anorexia and in this book we follow how she is doing this. her path unwinds in an unusual way and I liked the way how it was done. a lovely read

Quite a surprise!
Adria J. Cimino has written something interesting, merging the past and the present together.
This book is something different, I didn't expect the paranormal aspect of the book. The fact that she is living in the present but has met and gets to know from people from the past makes this book quite unique. How Kat and Will are the present day Jonathan and Victoria intrigues me and it's definitely something I haven't read before.
Read this and you won't be disappointed...

Interesting tale of past lives intertwined with present day stories if people who can't escape their past. The novel deals with love, loss, and mental frailty. Many will find it an intriguing romance that has twists and turns to hold a reader's attention. This type of romantic tale is not something I usually enjoy, but it has a good story line.

Reminded me of the parallel existence film Sliding Doors mixed with the ballroom scenes from The Shining. An intriguing love story where the past plays out in present-day London and New York. One to read cuddled up with a cup of Earl Grey or hot chocolate!

An advance copy was received for my honest review.
