This book both was and wasn't what I was expecting it to be. It featured Tyler's signature friendly, over-sharing style and his sense of humor. It told stories we hadn't heard in videos just as Tyler said it would. But, I did not expect him to be as forthcoming and as transparent as he was when sharing about his childhood and adolescence. I remember as soon as I'd finished the book that I closed it, sat back in my chair, and thought, "Wow. It's amazing he's turned out as well as he has, all things considered. Heck, it's a miracle he's still alive and not in jail." It felt odd to have related to someone for so long on a superficial level, I too can be a bit of a fangirl, and then to discover that said fellow fangirl has led a VERY show more DIFFERENT life in every other conceivable way. I'm not sure I'll be able to view his content as casually as I once did. In fact, I'm not sure I can be a fan of his anymore. I admire what he has done, how he's made a name for himself, and I know I'll still listen to Psychobabble, but I'm not sure I'll be able to watch his videos anymore. So, this was a great book, but it has forever altered my perception of Tyler Oakley as a content creator and a person. show less
I am going to be the first one on here to review Binge by Tyler Oakley! Slay me!
I must admit, I quite enjoyed Mr. Oakley's collection of life stories! Most of the time he used his wit and humor that he is famous for, to show us glimpses into his life that we haven't heard too much about on his YouTube channel.. But the best parts, in my opinion, were when he really let down his gaurd and showed us areas that weren't so funny. He allowed us to learn about his first love and loss, physical abuse he went through, and insecurities over his career and future among others. It was in these very vulnerable chapters that I found the true value of his memoir!
I will say I was rather shocked with how often he mentions his sexual exploits! I was show more not expecting such a vivid look into his sex life! But again, he was honest and open and I found it refreshing. He didn't shy away from admitting that he is a sexual being, regardless of his celebrity. (Side note, I hope to one day see him pop up on my grinder!)
Tyler did not seem to worry about what he should or should not say, and instead gave us an honest and open look deeper into his life! It was funny at times, it was gross at times, it was kinky at times, it was sad at times, and it was excellent the entire time!

This book was so much better than I thought it was going to be. It also helped that I listened to the audiobook which is read by Tyler himself so once again, it felt more like an intimate conversation between two friends rather than just essays in a book. Tyler has lead a very interesting life and it's interesting to get some stories on what makes him, well, him. Learning about his eating disorder and his anxiety issues really made me respect him ten times more than I already did. He's a great idol for his fans and although I do not like everything he puts out, I love that he is unafraid to be himself and stand up for what he believes. A great read if you are somewhat interested in Tyler and his videos but also just a great read if you show more want to read about a great human being! #teaminternet show less
I've never watched a single Tyler Oakley video. I don't know anything about him, other then he's from YouTube, he's gay and he's very popular.

I really liked this book. I read it in a day and I couldn't put it down. I stayed up late to finish it. It's very funny and I enjoy the photos. I really like reading books about peoples lives. I love autobiographies and memoirs. I'm always drawn to them. There are a lot of other 'YouTube' books out there I want to read, and they're all by people I've never watched before.

Anyway, this was entertaining. A quick funny read.
Binge is an incredibly funny and amazing book written by the one and only Tyler Oakley. The book explores his life so far not only as a renowned Youtube star but his personal live as well. I think this book will be great for showing the true story of an LGBTQ person to students, great for high schoolers to see life thru a different set of eyes.
Binge is an incredibly funny and amazing book written by the one and only Tyler Oakley. The book explores his life so far not only as a renowned Youtube star but his personal live as well. I think Tyler is capable of making anyone smile, his story sure made me. After reading this book I must say I feel a lot better about myself as a person, Tyler is honestly a truly inspirational person with an amazing story. I know he may not have lived through a war or won the Nobel Peace prize but for people like me who are part of the LGBT community he really is a big role model. I recommend this book for any supporters of LGTB rights and those looking for a laugh. probably not best for anyone under the age of twelve due to some corse language and show more sexual references. 5 stars from me. show less
