Description

Marian Pardoo, reference librarian for the Iowa City Public Library, would be happy if the woman she's loved for years wasn't already married. Annoyed by the thoughtless out-of-town Liddy, she isn't prepared for the seething passion that erupts when Liddy careens into her meticulously controlled life. Liddy has run two thousand miles from a devastating love affair. Now the idea of spending the sweltering summer watching the corn grow is driving her mad. Finding herself lusting after Marian show more the librarian seems like yet another cosmic jest at her hopeless love life. The only thing that keeps her sane is the coffee. In a town where everybody knows your name, the names of your exes, pets, and your third grade teacher, Marian is thankful that she and Liddy at least don't have an ex-girlfriend in common. One degree of separation is too close for comfort. show less

2.25 stars. this is fine for what it is. it's decently written, and there are enough different characters to make it a little more interesting. i'm not into the fall in love in 3 days thing, and i prefer my stories to have more than the romance at their center. but then i shouldn't read romances; since i mostly don't, it's hard to say if this is better or worse than most, but since the writing isn't bad, i'm sure it's about average at worst. this sounds like i hated the book, but didn't - it's not badly written and sometimes it's nice to read something easy and sweet.

For Maria, who found my future in the card catalogs at Berkeley Main. Fourteen and Fortunately no longer a Felony. This book would not be possible - indeed, information would not be ours for the asking - if not for the passio... (show all)n of librarians in preserving our freedom to read. My eternal gratitude goes to MJ Lowe for her generous, humorous and tireless attempts to teach me the intricate necessities of library sciences and the tantalizing mysteries of information arts.
