Description
Once Bitten . . .One minute Leigh is walking home in the early hours of the morning, and the next a vampire is sinking his teeth into her neck. Turns out it was a rogue vampire marked for termination, but it does Leigh little good because the damage's already been done. She's become one of them.
Lucian Argeneau, hunter of rogue vampires, has been alive for over two thousand years, and there's very little to excite him anymore. Food has become tasteless, sex is ordinary. Then Leigh drops show more into his life. Suddenly he finds himself craving coffee . . . and imagining the sassy brunette atop the black satin sheets on his nice big bed. It's Lucian's job now to enlighten Leigh on the inner workings of being immortal . . . and tutoring her is igniting a fire in him that hasn't burned in centuries.
But until they stop a renegade bloodsucker from destroying the human race, passion will have to wait!

I've read the entire Argeneau series but this is the first one I read and my favorite. I'm not real fond of vampire stories usually but the vampires here are not the undead kind so okay.
Another reason I went ahead and read it the first time is that it starts out in the Kansas City area where I live. Even though the KC geography is pretty wonky and full of mistakes it still gives me an affection for the book. For example if you just say Kansas City then you mean Kansas City, Missouri not Kansas City, Kansas. The major city is in MO. If you're talking about the smaller spill over city in Kansas, locals say Kansas City, Kansas or KCK to differentiate. And if you're walking from downtown KC (and downtown is always assumed to mean the show more Missouri city unless another city is specifically specified) then you're not going to walk to Kansas since you'd have a long walk across the Kaw river on one of the interstate bridges. There are a few other geographical mistakes but enough about that.
I really liked Lucien. I found his character to be charming since I always like alpha guys who are unsure of themselves around the woman they fall for. He wants very much to do right by her. The heroine, Leigh, is a very strong character who takes her new situation in stride rather than freaking out. Great secondary characters and solid plot. Funny in places. Light hearted in most. Not full of angst and anguish. Well written.
Very good series that I recommend to all my bookstore customers. show less

Leigh is walking home after closing down her bar when she is approached by a friend who she thought was missing. Unfortunately, he is not alone and brings his vampire sire with him. Donny's big plan is for Leigh to be turned by his sire so that the two of them can be together forever. Thankfully for Leigh, Lucian, one of the oldest vampires has been hunting down Morgan on behalf of the vampire council. He and his crew manage to save Leigh but Morgan escapes.
Lucian has always been the grumpy old man of the Argeneau series. He is after all thousands of years old and one of the original Atlantians. Lucian is not prepared to deal with a baby vamp and sees Leigh as an intrusion on his time until he realises that he cannot read her mind. show more Those familiar with the series will recognize this as an indicator that Leigh and Lucian are life mates. While Leigh adapts pretty quickly to the idea that she is a vampire the life mate thing makes her very uncomfortable because she recently escaped a physically and emotionally abusive marriage. Lucian must convince Leigh to trust him and on top of that Morgan, the man who turned Leigh has decided that he is not done with her yet.
As with other books in this series, Bite Me If You Can is really light and fluffy. Sands uses humor to keep the reader interested in the budding romance between Lucian and Leigh. As with all vampires, Lucian has given up food and sex and so the prospect of being intimate again worries him. He has no idea how to woo Leigh and so he heads to the bookstore and picks up the most ridiculous books to use as his guide. His younger family has to intervene to save him before he makes a complete ass of himself.
Bite Me If You Can, is another in the series which is highly erased. There are no GLBT characters and once again an all White cast. I am particularly disturbed by the all straight characters because each book not only involves a romance but finding one's life mate. This suggests that forever love, or even love worth celebrating must only occur between straight people. All of the characters continually affirm the absolutely necessity of finding a life mate because it forestalls depression, anti-social behaviour and even insanity. If life mates only happen in heterosexual relationships and give such benefits, what does this say about same sex couples and the love they experience?

My thoughts:
Another good and light Argeneau vampire novel. I truly like that about this series. And once again, this one can easily be read as a standalone novel. I have only read 3 out of 6, but it works. There is a new couple in each, and the whole vampire thing is explained to the newbies. Trust me on this.

In this one a woman, Leigh is out walking and gets attacked. Luckily for her Lucian comes to the rescue as he is hunting down her attacker. Since she is bitten he explains things to her *coughs*, ok he tries, he calls in help, and he is pretty bad at the whole thing. That is what I liked most about him, for someone among the oldest in the world (talking BC here), he is pretty bad at certain things. He is the grumpy grandpa that has given up on sex and food, since why bother at all. What can I say, I liked him, especially in one scene where he buys books about how to talk to woman. Leigh then, well she comes to term with the whole vampire/nano thing pretty fast. But she has been hurt by a man in the past so she is not that keen on falling in love, or lust with anyone.
These books are light, there is some humour, and there is some passion. I just sat down and read it fast, and I do like books like that. You can just relax, sit back and read a cute story about a couple falling in love. Though as always there is some danger in them too, here it's the guy that bit her and he will be back at the end.
What next, well I would really like to see Marguerite's book. That would be fun (nr 9 it seems ;)
Conclusion:
The whole vampire thing is still interesting, I do like the story of Atlantis and how "vampires" were created. The lightness and humour in the books make them fun reads. Cute and fast.

On her way home, Leigh gets bitten by a rogue vampire and must be nursed back to health and tutored about the ways of the immortals by the hunter of rogue vampires, Lucian Argeneau. Yes, this sounds like just another one of those generic vampire books, but come on, this is Lynsay Sands. She does funny vampires–badass vampires stuck in completely ordinary situations like cleaning house and shopping at the mall. It was an amusing read until approximately ninety pages from the end when everything went downhill–mostly due to the completely unbelievable villain. This is the sixth book in the series, but all the books are standalone–so I don’t think you’d be missing anything if you skip this entry.
I liked this story of a woman coming to terms with becoming a vampire and an old vampire coming to terms with his life-mate.
Both characters were independent people who had to come to terms with being dependent on each other and relax their stress about trusting another person.
Fun reading and I look forward to reading more in this series.

Even ageless immortals can be crusty old men. And all it takes is a young beautiful woman to melt that crust.
Perhaps it is the family conspiracy, but Lucian seems much more human than in the other novels of this series. And Leigh has a strength of character that shines through, especially when kicking vampire butt.
A light, quick read, written with a deft touch that keeps the reader enrapt.
