Description
Sean Chiller, a cop on vacation with his wife and three-year-old daughter, becomes trapped in a strange little town by a killer storm. The family discovers the colony is the center of a genetics experiment gone horribly wrong; a major corporate research center for GMO foods where the local residents are the guinea pigs, mutating into rampaging desperate monsters, slaves to the town's sociopathic physician, the Mayor, and the county Sheriff. With the help of one eccentric local they plan a show more bold escape the townies will do anything to stop. Anything. show lessTags

The book hooked me immediately as I could imagine myself in the same snowstorm Sean Chiller was in, curiously wondering what actions I would take to get my family to safety. The character development was on target, as there were times that I doubted the very character I had liked at first, only to like them again later on. Each time I thought I had figured out how the story would end, another plot twist appeared and I had to rethink everything over. The ending was a bit of a cliffhanger, so am extremely curious how Berzerker Nation will turn out and look forward to reading another Theo Cage book.
The only thing I did not like was the cursing, as it did not add anything that I could not have interpreted myself.

If I had to choose five words to describe Theo Cage's "Berzerker," they would be as follows: horrific, gripping, intense, suspenseful, chilling. When the Chiller family takes a detour to find a much-needed gas station, little do they know that the small town they stumble into will prove to be the setting for the most horrific events of their lives. They can't begin to understand why the town's residents are so inhospitable, or the night-time noises are so chilling. And, even when they do begin to find out what is going on, they can't come close to imagining the scope of events. Whether you are a fan of horror or suspense, or you just like a gripping page-turner, you will love "Berzerker"!
Once you start "Berzerker" by Theo Cage, you'll be just as trapped as the main characters, unable to stop until you figure out what's going on and how to get yourself out of a situation that continues to become increasingly creepy and surreal. As the snow falls and Sean Chiller and his family become trapped in the strange little town of Berzerker, the weather itself can be felt as its own menacing entity. But what lurks in this town is far from weather-induced. You won't be able to put this book down until you reach the heart-pounding, surprising and ultimately, satisfying, ending.

A fitting name for a town gone crazy.
Sean Chiller, along with his wife Tracy and daughter Ashley are heading to a hospital in search of a treatment that may extend Ashley life. Ashley has Cyctic Fibrosis and the outlook is not good. Their travels are being hindered by an intense snow storm, and a low gas tank that will bring them into a town named Berzerker.
A series of events lead them into a nightmare. A small town where everyone knows each other. The people are rude and stand offish. There appears no one between childhood and 30 years old live there. The church basement serves their meals as a community. Just a strange show more place to be in. While staying in a local hotel until their unbroken car is repaired Sean and Tracy feel if they just stay until dawn and leave as early as possible they will be just fine…but the town and people have other plans for them.
A fantastic and believable story. Yes a little bit sci-fi. How are we to know what would happen if your life was manipulated by a company with sights on scientific experimentation. You have to live by their rules or you will be eliminated.
I had to settle in for the ride on this one. Theo Cage has a way of weaving a tale that’s difficult to put down. The possibilities are endless. I just have a hard time wrapping my head around the idea that a town is owned by the private sector, willing to do what they do for the love of money, and think they can somehow survive. By private I mean owned by a governmental agency, politicians, of a scientific type of experimentation for the discovery of new breed, trend, medication, or anything else you can think of. Like most people I am frustrated that this can go unchecked. This could really happen, or is currently happening now. As far as GMO testing goes, we already know that to be fact. No one knows the long term effects of controlling the food supply. Yet, we haven’t stopped eating yet. I am getting a little off point here to made a point.
If your into unknown possibilities this is a book for you. High action will take into the world of drugs, military involvement, civilian population as test subjects, secrets, money and endless thought provoking ideas. A well thought out plot of intrigue.

Theo Cage has done it again. He has written a book so intense and suspenseful, that I could not put the book down. This book is a little different from his others, but equally as incredible . His writing ability becomes stronger and more detailed after each book. I don't like to give to much away about the book, but just enough to intice readers.
Sean and Tracy are driving in a terrible snow storm with their daughter Ashley. They have a very important doctor appointment they must keep. Their daughter suffers from Cystic Fibrosis and they are hopeful that she will be accepted into an experimental treatment. As they are traveling, they take a wrong turn and find themselves in a town called Bezerker. That is the beginning of a terror show more filled adventure for this family. The town is creepy , the people in the town are beyond weird and it has an overall feel of the twilight zone. The car won't start, they run out of gas and now they feel trapped in a town that you only see in nightmares.
The characters are far and above the most bizarre I have read with their unique style that scares readers to the core. It has all the makings for a great horror book with blood, mysteries that surround the townspeople and turns that keep you glued to the pages. Yes I am going to say, this is one of my favorites of the author's works, and dare I say is right there among some well known horror writers like Stephrn King and Dean Koontz. I will highly recommend this book to all those who love a book that makes your heart race and love a great book written with tremrndous details. Well done Theo Cage. I am a huge fan.

I was so impressed with this book. The way that Theo Cage builds tension is so good. I could feel myself reading with my neck sinking into my shoulders as the danger increased for Sean Chiller and his wife and daughter -Tracy and Ashley respectively.
They found themselves in an utterly odd town, you know that feeling when you know something is wrong but you can't put a finger on it? Well that's what they felt as soon as they drove into town, like a cloud of weird was sitting over the town along with a thick blanket of snow.
The welcome from the locals was about as cold as the weather. They were very stand-offish. They couldn't get served in the diner, the mayor and his wife were being show more furtive and the local sheriff made it pretty clear that he would rather the Chiller's weren't there. Nothing like a warm welcome...
I will say that this book may not be for the faint hearted, as there are some quite intense moments of bloody violence which does have its place in the context of the story but is quite descriptive nonetheless, just so you know.
I am a huge fan of Theo Cage and this is another excellent book from one of my favourite authors. Thought provoking, intelligent, intense and totally gripping! Five stars from me. show less
