Philip McCutchan was born on October 13, 1920 and grew up in the naval atmosphere of Portsmouth Dockyard in the United Kingdom. He served on several British war ships during World War II. After the war, he concentrated on writing and published over 80 books during his lifetime. His interest in military history resulted in numerous fiction books show more about the British Army and its campaigns. His works include the Halfhyde Adventure series, the James Ogilvie series, and the Commander Shaw series. He also wrote under the pseudonyms Robert Conington Galway and Duncan MacNeil.
