I've had this book for months after talking in person with Meljean and having her sign the copy. In case she shows up for the book signing in March with the Seattle writers, I should have read this and possibly get the next book in the series so she can sign it too.
I tried starting it before Destiny Kills. It wasn't pulling me in but I'll give it another whirl. Missed the book signing.
I picked it up again and got a little further. Its not really working for me yet. Since its signed, I won't toss it, but keep trying until I get through it. It's the only thing left in my too be read stash by the bed....

I could've guessed that this was one of Meljean Brook's early novels, and I have to admit that I'm glad I didn't start here. The Iron Seas series shows more originality, the pacing is solid, and her characters rang truer. Demon Angel, on the other hand, had a really slow start, and never revved up to the point I know she's capable of. I suppose that this could be due to my growing affection for Steampunk, and the ebbing of my enjoyment of urban fantasy/paranormal romance. But I suspect it's more than that. I never connected with these characters like I have In other books, and I think some of the joy in the Iron Seas writing was missing here.

But like I said - it's early Meljean Brook. I bought the second book back in my book selling days, so I'll be reading that one too. Searching for the zest I've come to expect from her writing. ( )

Just as interesting and complex the second time around, though I definitely enjoyed the relationship and world-building aspects better having read the others in the series. ( )
