Comfort food and murder are on the holiday menu in the latest mystery from the national bestselling author of Macaroni and Freeze . . .All Trixie Matkowski wants for Christmas is a break—just not the broken leg she got after slipping on some ice. With Sandy Harbor alive in the hustle and bustle of the season, it’s the busiest time of the year at Trixie’s Silver Bullet Diner. There are millions of things to do, including cater the town’s annual Christmas pageant and community show more dinner with some delicious holiday comfort food.
But the festivities turn into a bit of a turkey after Liz Fellows, the director of the pageant, is found with Trixie’s butcher knife in her back. Now Trixie must help the police arrest the scary gentleman—or lady—guilty of the crime if she hopes to get herself off the naughty list. show less

Trixie loves Christmas. She loves everything about it – decorating her house and her diner, cooking, being with friends and family, the Christmas pageant, and the snow. The one thing she did not like this Christmas was falling down her front steps and breaking her leg and a few ribs. That did slow her down a bit, but with some help from her friends, she managed to fulfill her catering obligations and keep her diner running. Trixie even attended the pageant rehearsals on crutches, and when the director of the pageant was found dead – with Trixie’s knife in her back – Trixie steps in to run the pageant. From then on, she is poking her nose, and her leg in its cast, into places she has no right to be. Spurned on and helped by her show more friend Antoinette Cloe, she hobbles around, looking for clues, aggravating the local police to point of arrest (even though they are friends and share custody of a dog), and putting herself in danger. Likable characters in a plot that cleverly combines a murder with the true meaning of Christmas, this novel is a quick read and entertaining at any time of year. show less
Just after Thanksgiving and at a time when Trixie is at her busiest, she falls and breaks her leg. There are several catered events and wedding receptions besides Holiday parties scheduled. The first and most extensive is a series of food buffets for the Community theater group while they rehearse. A new director has taken over this year and not everyone is happy. When she turns up dead with one of Trixie's knives in her it doesn't look good. Despite Trixie's physical restrictions she goes sleuthing. I live not too far from the setting of this series, so familiarity kept me going for more. But this is the last book in the series and it seems like a good place to end.
