Lance has no idea what he is when he moves next door to Jackie. As she tries to figure out what her neighbor's story is, she is also trying to decide if they should date since they are the only two not of retirement age in the retirement community. Humor defines their interactions as Lance is jumpy and Jackie is wondering. Then murder occurs.

I enjoyed this story and the characters. The retirement community crowd are funny as they try to hook up Lance and Jackie. Watching Lance and Jackie trying to figure each other out, especially Lance, made me laugh. He was freaked and Jackie clueless. The murder was not the biggest story line. It was the start of the relationship between Lance and Jackie as well as what happened with Lance before show more Jackie met him. This is a good set-up for the series. show less
A thirty something food columnist, Jackie, living the high life as the youngest resident of a Florida retirement community in the house she inherited from her grandmother. Sprinkle with early-bird specials and nights of bingo. A girl with imagination and people of the community have some expectations and her friends want her to be with someone in a relationship.

Lucas college professor-turned-novelist, seasoned heavily with deep, dark secrets sprung from a night of drunken fun that left him changed in ways he doesn't understand. As he gain a potential to drink blood and have allergies with Garlic.

A murder that rocks a quiet community. And joke of Vampire take a serious turn and later finding that humour is author keynote.

The teasing show more moments between Jackie and Lucas made them feel more real. All of the friends in the neighborhood added so much charm to the story. I am not particularly fond of Veronica, but am holding out to see if my opinion of her changes in future books ,until neither one can deny their growing attraction to each other show less
