I wanted to like this even more than I did. The writing is very smooth and draws the reader right in. The backdrop of the story, though not unique, is unusual enough to add interest. The only real problem I had with the book is that it's incredibly predictable once you realize that the main character is going to succeed at everything...easily.
I'd recommend this, but I think Emma Bull's new series starting with Territory is going to be a better "fantasy as western" piece.
