Vacation this summer? Let's get purposely stranded on a tropical island!
There's actually a lot more of the feel of the first book to this one, since they're on the island for a few weeks without any way of getting more supplies other than what they can build and find themselves. They do have two adults along though: Grandfather and newcomer Lars Larson[^madeup]--who previously got shipwrecked here ... and apparently wants to go back for vacation now? Sure. And Mike again, who's fun enough. Do any of the other children have friends to spoil with vacations from a rich grandfather?
In any case, it's a fun enough story in an exotic locale, perfect for escapism and learning how to live off the land in a relatively safe manner. There's a show more mystery, but not much of a mystery and everything ends up happy at the end. Pretty much a Boxcar Children story in a nutshell.
[^madeup]: Totally sounds made up. Except apparently there's a conservative radio talk show host by that name. show less

Better than the last few in the series, in that it had an actual mystery put forth in a coherent plot. Also, the setting was not a uranium mine. That also helped. I am regretting that I started reading this series, however, as I'm apparently doomed to read it from now on FOREVER. Should have waited until they discovered it on their own.
Grandfather Alden, the four Alden children, Benny's friend Mike, and a sailor take the Sea Star to an island in the South Seas. It's supposed to be uninhabited, but they keep finding signs of life - and discover a boy who was shipwrecked months ago. Peter is reunited with his family.
Henry, Jessie, Violet, and Benny are taking a vacation in the South Seas on an uninhabited island. But is the island really uninhabited?
This book is okay...I think that the characters are kind of boring, the are basically all Static characters through the story. Everybody in the story is a major character.
The Boxcar Children are vacationing on an uninhabited island in the South Seas--But is it really uninhabited?
The Alden children can always find a mystery, even on a deserted island.

Gertrude Chandler Warner was born in Putnam, Connecticut on April 16, 1890. Due to her poor health, she never finished high school and studied with a tutor. During World War I, a shortage of teachers prompted the local school board to hire her to teach first grade, a position she held for over 30 years. She wrote the first Boxcar book in 1924, show more while home recuperating from an illness, but the version most people are familiar with was originally published in 1942. The Alden children became so popular that she wrote 19 adventures about them including Surprise Island, Mystery Ranch, and Snowbound Mystery. She died at age 89 August 29, 1979, but the Boxcar Children are still being written about by a team of writers faithful to her vision. (Bowker Author Biography) show less
