Don’t let the Nicholas Spark-ish cover fool you. This book was comedic gold! I really wish a streaming channel would option it as I would love to watch it unfold. I am not kidding when I say I laughed so hard I had to avoid my abs at the gym this morning! The book is a “love triangle” of sorts in terms of humor but truly a friends to lovers romantic comedy. I have never read anything by Van Dyken before and now she is definitely at the top of my must read list. Easily a favorite and worth reading again in the future. I HIGHLY recommend it. It is book #1 of a four book series and I plan on reading the rest.
I can't even. Premise sounded good, reviews good enough to give it a go. But I couldn't stomach the whackadooddle. No way would real people ever act like this. I like goofy romantic comedy but this was some sort of manic Benny Hill skit on steroids. And I despise Benny Hill. It was some sort of bad high school improv done by horny drunk boys.
I have liked other books from this author so I wanted to give this one a try. The premise is girl has loved her big brother's best friend for years, but he's always treated her like a little sister. I was expecting a sweet new adult with lite humor and lots of cuteness. It did start out this way. It felt similar to several novels dealing with childhood crushes and being all grown up now. I was liking it, but I wasn't amazed. Then, wham, it goes crazy with the funny.
Milo is home from college to attend Jason's (her brother) wedding. Of course Colt (her brother's best friend and her life-long crush) is there. The three of them were their own little gang growing up before feelings got in the way. After making a move on Colt and being shut show more down, she is trying to keep her distance. To save her pride, she accidentally says Max (her best friend) is her boyfriend. Max shows up to help with the wedding and operation win Colton. Oh, and everyone hates the bride-to-be.
At this point, everything just starts snowballing. There's beaucoup physical/slapstick comedy, hilarity overload. Some of the characters are walking disasters and others need full protective armor. Every person in the story has a different personality. They all work so well together. Some are ridiculously silly and others more deadpan. 'Hell in a hand basket' is an accurate description for this wedding party. Oh, and the character comedy like Grandma, bwahahaha. I don't know which persona in this story I love the most. So much giggle-factor. Seriously, I didn't know if I would ever finish because I would read a couple lines then wheeze-laugh, read a couple lines then wheeze-laugh. . .
The romance and endearing parts are present also, some declarations that make you go awww. It actually has a few really wise and profound statements about love and time too. The analogy the mom makes with breathing and love is a great one.
I'm 100% glad that I took the time to read it. If you're looking for something serious or erotic this probably isn't it. If you're looking for some laughs in your life, you've found it.

What a crazy, quirky cast of characters. There are so many laugh out loud moments! Great read, sometimes a bit over the top, but it does't detract too much from the book
One of the funniest books I read in, well, ever! What a character Max is, made the whole book. The wonderful best friends sister romance at the heart of the story is wonderful as Colton and Milo find their way to each other. The antics are little out there sometimes but remembering that it is suppose to be funny, not deep drama, makes this one you will want to read. I highly recommend it!!
I received a copy in exchange for honest review, this does not influence my review in any shape or form.
So if you've been following me for a while or if you're friends with me on Goodreads then you know I absolutely LOVE stories about falling for your best friend's brother. I love reading them. I actually saw The Consequence of Loving Colton on a Waiting for Wednesday post during a blog hop. I immediately requested it on Netgalley and awaited to see if I would get approved...a couple days later my approval came in and so I sat down to read The Consequence of Loving Colton. I was expecting a light hearted love story but what I got was....tears from laughing so much, my stomach hurting from laughing so much, and having to catch my breath show more because I was laughing. So yeah, I laughed A LOT reading The Consequence of Loving Colton.
Our story involves Milo (our main character) who has been in love with her brother Jason's best friend Colton since she could remember. The thing is, when she was 16 she tried to kiss him but he rejected her. Now she does everything she can to avoid him, without really avoiding him if that makes sense. Anyway, she's home for the weekend because Jason is getting married to the Devil not literally guys but she's not the kind of girl you'd want to be your sister-in-law. One thing leads to another and Colton and Milo kiss only this time he's apologizing saying it should've never happened. Of course, Milo is crushed! I mean who wouldn't be when your crush straight out tells you that he's sorry for kissing you? She ends up making a huge lie saying she's never cheated on someone and calls her best friend Max hoping he'd go along with the story. He does but he also puts his own spin to the story. And let the crazy weekend begin!
Like I mentioned some of the things that occurred throughout the story were funny. But if you take away all the funny stuff there wasn't much of a story. Just a snowball events that kept occurring. There was some parts I love for instance I really enjoyed Max's character. Seriously, I need and want a friend like Max in my life. He was extremely funny, easy to like and I totally would've forgotten about Colton if Max was hitting on me just sayin'. Anyway, the other characters were okay for me but really nothing was grabbing my attention about them. Like I mentioned before, all the events that happened throughout the book were funny but some rubbed me the wrong way.
For instance, Max being sexually assaulted by a bunch of women and no one taking him seriously. They just joke about it tell him to man up etc. That really rubbed me the wrong way. And then the horny grandma also sexually assaulting the brother...like was that necessary. It gave me the creeps.I pretty much skipped over those parts.
I was expecting something totally different from what I got. Yes, you will laugh when you read this but other than that the story is totally ridiculous and over the top and not believable. The only reason why this is getting three stars is because Max was amazing and I will probably be picking up his book.

I found this book to be silly and rather ridiculous, It was not at all what I was expecting and I didn't really enjoy it. I did manage to finish it but I heavily skimmed the last third of the book.
